Been to Brookings, Fargo, Vermillion, Des Moines, Macomb, and Normal and live in Cedar Falls.....
Brookings, Vermillion, and Macomb are "dumps" of towns. They have their redeeming qualities but as a college town completely garbage.
I've never been to Cape Girardeau - had to look up the city to figure out what school it was actually - and while I've never been there I've heard it would likely belong in the same category as the cities above it.
Fargo was nice, but I didn't really get a "college feel" while there. I may have missed it though....seems tough for me to do so as I was there for a NDSU/UNI game Friday, Saturday, and Sunday....For year round though the shitty weather (yes, Fargo's weather is shitty 7 months out of the year I'd assume) knocks it down for me - I loath winter though.
Never been to Grand Forks....have a good friend who has a sister that lives there...she is "meh" about the city - but she doesn't care about sports so she has no feel of it is a college town. Much like Fargo the weather knocks them down a bit for me.
Cedar Falls is growing as a college town...the bar scene is shifting from what it has been - for the better. I'm likely biased though.
Des Moines is by far the "nicest" city listed...far from a college town though. Drake is the biggest university in the town but they fall 4th in the ranking of most supported.
My ranking of best "college towns"
1. Cedar Falls
2. Fargo
3. Des Moines - only due to the sheer number of college fans in general has almost zero to do with Drake.
4. Normal
5. Brookings
6. Macomb
7. Vermillion
I can't acurately give a ranking of Cap Girardeau or Grand Forks.

Honestly, the only area I know much about is Fargo/Moorhead

I'd rate Grand Forks above Fargo. Both are solid but GF is smaller so the school seems to play a bigger role.

Cape Girardeau is farther south than Richmond, VA, 'spandos.....but if that's the region you put them in then Carbondale wins that group going away, with CG in 2nd place. UNI has been getting their azzes whupped here for decades now.expandspanos wrote:Best North Central FCS town? (Includes Cedar Falls)
