(CNN) -- Athlete Paraskevi Papachristou has been expelled from Greece's Olympic team for posting an offensive comment about African immigrants on Twitter, a team spokeswoman said Wednesday.
"With so many Africans in Greece, the mosquitoes from the West Nile will at least be eating some homemade food," Papachristou said on Twitter.
The Hellenic Olympic Committee ruled Papachristou, a triple jumper, would be barred from participating in the London Olympics that begin Friday.
"She made a mistake but it was serious," the spokesman said. "It was unforgivable."

The rest of the world appears to be as ridiculously PC as this country. I didn't know that was the case.
We've come a long way from allowing Hitler to preside over the games in Berlin I guess. Wow.
ugg...
"What I'm saying is: You might have taken care of your wolf problem, but everyone around town is going to think of you as the crazy son of a bitch who bought land mines to get rid of wolves."
I don't get what's so offensive about that statement.
It implies that there are a large number of immigrants. It doesn't say anything disparaging about those immigrants.
Leno/Fallon/Conan/Stewart/Colbert and the like could have said exactly what she said on network TV and no one would bat an eye. I guess the whole thing is the elusive "Olympic ideal". Too bad for someone who has trained for this all their lives and is at their athletic peak to get banned for something seemingly so benign.
Slight diversion, but the "one false start and you're disqualified" rule instituted for sprinters is a bunch of crap too, but that's another thread.

Simple, "The Dictator"-style solution - put real bullets into the starter's pistol and aim it at a hay bale positioned on the side of the track a short distance in front of the runners. No more false starts.

I'm with you. It's not like she used a slur or demeaned them... This kind of stuff is ridiculous.

That is easy for you to say what if that were you she made the comment about as stated before somebody should have responded in kind about Greece's financial predicament!!!
