cats2506 wrote:I see a close game but give the Cats the edge because it's at home. I don't think EWU has played a defense as good as MSU, having our front 7 healthy will be big. Kaufman is a problem but Adams will playing his first big game in a loud stadium on the road, against a very good front 7 that likes to go after QB's.

I also see weakness in their defense that I think MSU can exploit, I hope Kirk will be back and indications are that he was held for this game.

MSU can't afford the mistakes that we were able to overcome in the last 2 weeks, I just don't see us playing that poorly next week, after 2 weeks on the road to unknown venues it will be good to get back to Bozeman. EWU on the other hand is coming off 2 good performances at home, now they go on the road to one of the more difficult places to win in the last couple of years in the BSC, it may be hard for them to maintain that high performance level.

either way I expect a fairly close and somewhat high scoring game that goes down to the wire.
One of my old coaches told me to have success in football, you need to be dominate at home and squeak by on the road. All your mistakes are amplified, everyone hates you, you don't get the calls, you just hope to escape on the road. Sure the Bobcats haven't been the sharpest team on the road, but Eastern didn't look all that sharp in their only conference road game at Weber State. Bozeman is a much more difficult place for the opposition than Ogden. Bobcats by 3.

I think the key to an EWU win is how healthy our LB's are going to be going into this one. Agen, Johnson, and McCarthy have been out. We are a slightly different defense without Johnson and McCarthy, who were both starters up until the Weber State game. (We always seem to lose a ton of players when we play them). And agreed on Zach Johnson....awesome player..but always hurt it seems. The same was true of Matt to a certain extent, but it seemed like he was able to play through a lot of those. Zach has just been more unlucky with the weird blood clot thing in 2009 and then the freak injury last year. That said, I personally I think he was held out of the UND and will be GTG for MSU.

The injuries are racking up a little, but the big difference between last year's epidemic and this year is that we haven't had any O-Line injuries that I know of (knock on wood). Last season we lost 4 O-Lineman and struggled to get chemistry until late in the season when we were already knocked out of the playoff picture.

Edwards and Minnerly are both big losses, but I think we are deep enough to recover from those and hopefully they'll be back by the end of the season if we're still in the playoff picture by then. The rest of the stuff seems to be relatively minor stuff, so hopefully with the exception of 3 or 4 guys we'll be relatively healthy going into MSU.

Before the season I actually wanted EWU to win this game more than any other on the schedule, maybe save Idaho (can't stand their fans). We are on a two game losing streak against MSU. Prior to that we had a winning streak against them which dated back to the 90's.

Minnerly's back up, Tonani led the team in tackles yesterday. But what we lose in Minnerly is senior leadership.

Senior leadership and field-smarts. Minnerly isn't overly athletic, but he has a good nose for where the play is going. Tonani might be more athletic. Hopefully Jeff can make it back by the end of the season; crappy way to go out your last year of playing football.

Umm, you had great stats last season, too. The problem was you folded like cheap suits as soon as you played a physical, smash mouth team.

Yeah, the whole thing.... wait, did you win it? I'm pretty sure we lost ours though, since they were better than us. Holy shit, did I just admit a team actually was better than the Cats? Damn, there goes my griz bandwagon entrance card being revoked....

We lost, but we didn't just quit as soon as someone hit us in the mouth. In fact, we physically dominated the last three quarters after we woke up and started playing.

So what happened last year will now dictate this year against a team we aren't playing with players we don't have? Still lost, who cares, it's in the past.

I get it, dude. Bronco and I reminded you of the Bobcats' fatal flaw, about which you're clearly in denial.

But fuck it. See you in November. :thumb:

Cats haven't played great so far.

However, Bobcat Stadium will be rocking next saturday. A record crowd is expected. Our front 7 is looking tough, which will make Eastern one dimensional. This one will be a shootout, with the advantage going to the more experienced team at home. Cats in a barn burner. Looking forward to a great game!

GO CATS!

Again, I think the key will be seeing if Eastern can D up Montana State. I'm pretty sure Eastern is good for a few points. Eastern has enough dimensions that you really can't expect an opposing defense to shut it down with regularity at this level. The O is much improved over last year's pass only style.

But they'll get stopped a few times, probably a lot in the 3rd quarter as is normally the case. I'm still not confident the Eagle D is all that great. UND simply seemed to have zero gameplan; I mean, they looked dominant on the first drive and then completely abandoned the read-option which has proven the winning ticket against Eastern.

I always joke because McGhee has beaten EWU twice, but never with his arm. He just runs a good lateral offense, and that has been the bane of EWU's existence. Even when Eastern is full strength, it's been a shortcoming.

If this game was in Cheney, and Eastern got some new blood healthy, I'd probably say Eastern's edge in speed and homefield would be the difference. As of now, no one knows if Eastern is getting guys back and Bozeman is a difficult place to play. I'd give the edge to Montana State. It *could* go either way, but I think any intellgient observer would look at this as an advantage-MSU kind of game.
