Congrats Matt. I know there are some sick App State fans out there, missing an XP in OT in the playoffs. That's a tough one!

WTF happened App State? You just fucked up my next weekend. I guess, on the bright side, I won't have to see GATW next week.

Consider me among the ailing I wanted App St to win in the worst way.The only consolation I got was hearing that Price broke Randy Moss frosh mark for receiving yds.93henfan wrote:Congrats Matt. Re: Illinois State 38 Appalachian State 37 OT/F
The box score doesn't do the game justice. By stats alone you'd think App won but we looked really sloppy. ISU played solid defense, especially in the first half until ASU started getting some momentum. ISU seemed to have a lot of issues with false starts (5+ ?) that set them back a bit - I don't know if it was crowd noise or what. App had a garbage TD that looked like a sure interception that we somehow converted toward the end. Jackson seemed very tentative with the run, had difficulty with his progressions (as he has all year) but we somehow hung with them despite looking really shoddy on the field. Congrats to ISU - I spoke to several fans who made the trip and congratulated them on the win and wished them safe travels....good bunch of fans.

Yeah, like you would have actually shown, anyway. I'm pretty sure you leave western Montana less often than Grizo.grizzaholic wrote:WTF happened App State? You just fucked up my next weekend. I guess, on the bright side, I won't have to see GATW next week.

Re: Illinois State 38 Appalachian State 37 OT/F
I started watching the game rooting for Illinois State thinking they'd be the lesser of two evils coming to Cheney next week. About halfway through, I changed my allegiance to App State because I thought Illinois State looked like they had more talent. Not a great defensive showing by either team, but one helluva ballgame.
I know a lot of people thought Eastern had an easier road to hoe to get to the semis, but I am seriously concerned about Illinois State. In fact, after watching Cal Poly's defense dominate Sam Houston State and lose the game simply because they kept turning it over, I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have them.
It just goes to show you how much "conventional wisdom" can get thrown out the window week to week in the playoffs.

Yep, I thought Illinois State looked tougher than both SHSU and MSU.LDopaPDX wrote:I started watching the game rooting for Illinois State thinking they'd be the lesser of two evils coming to Cheney next week. How would you rate the level of play by the Redbirds vs App state? Was that their A game?
10 of 10
9 0f 10
8 of 10?
You get it.

I didn't watch the whole game nor do I know ISU as well as Matt but I'd say they played about an 8 from what I saw and from what I know about them. I think offensively they played about as well as they could have but have more to offer defensively than what they showed Saturday.clawman wrote:ISU;isumatt wrote:Blocked XP in OT wins it for ISU

Re: Illinois State 38 Appalachian State 37 OT/F
Offense: 10
Defense 1st 3 quarters: 10 (couple missed tackles but it happens)
Defense 4th quarter and OT: 2 ( 2 only cuz we got a stop on the last drive of the 4th, otherwise 1)
Overall defense: 7 was great until we tired in the 4th
Special teams: 10 (1-1FG, 5-5XP, great kick and punt coverage minus 1 PR, 1 HUGE blocked XP to win game in OT)
Total overall for the game I'm going with 8.5/10.
We gave up too many yards in the last 15 minutes and didn't get a sack till late in the 4th. Outside of that I would have said 10!

BATE Borisov for you this week? My boys will be resting against lowly Man City since we've already qualified top of our group. BTW, did you watch the game on Saturday? Kroos and Goetze are off the hook. I kind of figured Goetze would be in a starring role this season, but Kroos becoming such a superstar flew under my radar. I always figured he'd be in the holding MF role... didn't realize he had such a scoring flair.Grizalltheway wrote:LDopaPDX wrote:Es kann soviel passieren,

Re: Illinois State 38 Appalachian State 37 OT/F
As one can tell, the shit hit the fan at ASU on Sunday so this game has almost been forgotten.
I must say, ISU had a great game plan ready. They picked on our FS big time and it worked. Very simple and effective play-calling. The blocked PAT was just a breakdown on the line, simple as that. ASU was 50 for 50 on PAT's before that. Never seen so many people shell-shocked at KBS before. That was a rough one, but a great game nonetheless.

I hope NDSU and ILSU continue winning to prove to the many doubters out there that the Missouri Valley is clearly the #1 conference in FCS football this year.

Who is arguing the point? I've been saying the MVFC is tops since about week 6 or so. It's clear the CAA is down from a couple of years ago. Heck, the CAA may have fallen to fourth behind the SoCon and BSC.guinzone wrote:I hope NDSU and ILSU continue winning to prove to the many doubters out there that the Missouri Valley is clearly the #1 conference in FCS football this year.

How is this defined? The conference with the best teams? Or the conference with the best team resumes?93henfan wrote:Who is arguing the point?
