War Of Words Between ASU's Peacock And Coach Moore
War Of Words Between ASU's Peacock And Coach Moore
There is a war of words brewing at Appalachian State between former football coach Jerry Moore and Dr. Kenneth Peacock:

I just don't get it, Mr C. It seems to me if the admin was eager to push Coach out the door, an announcement would have been prudent no later than September. Were they afraid of a fan backlash? Was the recruiting angle a part of the decision to delay? I have no reason to disbelieve either Mr Cobb or Mr Peacock re the facts and timeline, but the reason for wanting a change is not transparent enough. I am eager to see if Coach Moore will offer a deeper explanation of his dysfunction with Cobb.
Great coaches like Jerry Moore don't come along THAT often. i sincerely hope there wasn't some underlying scandal as seen at other schools recently (handling of recent player naughtiness perhaps?) and that Coach can be resurrected at another willing institution.
I swear, college football gets stranger every year.

Seems to me if there was an agreement in place we'd be further down the path of having a permanent replacement named already.

How's that?ASUG8 wrote:Seems to me if there was an agreement in place we'd be further down the path of having a permanent replacement named already.
You have several people, including someone, Adcock, who considers himself a "close, personal friend" of Moore, saying that this was to be Moore's last year,,,and that Moore knew it! Apparently, there is a "written communication" telling Moore his coaching career was ending...and an offer to take another role (an offer he declined in order to get one last year).
However, the university didn't want to annouce Moore's final year until the end of the season.
If anyone leaked that ASU was looking for a new coach (to have one in place quickly after the season ended), then that would have made the news and the end-of-year announcement would not have been an end-of-year announcement.
Sounds as though Moore is just not accepting that his role as a coach is over. Happens to a lot of people who retire or are forced to retire.
These signatures have a 500 character limit?
What if I have more personalities than that?

You may be right on this, and I doubt we'll ever really know what happened. I thought the Satterfield hire was a move to put a HCIW in place, but that doesn't appear to have been the case. My understanding is that Jerry had some recent issues with Peacock and Cobb, notably the firing of Jerry's son from the coaching staff and a rumored disagreement on the future move to FBS. Peacock and Cobb are in alignment on this, so I'm not surprised (right or wrong) that they are backing each other up on Moore's "retirement". It's a sad way to end a legacy however it transpired.Cluck U wrote:How's that?ASUG8 wrote:Seems to me if there was an agreement in place we'd be further down the path of having a permanent replacement named already.

Minus the tickle monster stuff this sounds eerily similar to the PSU - Joe Paterno saga with contracts ending & & the administration simply not renewing the contract. There doesn't need to be anything in writing legally on ASU's side to end the relationship.
However, I guess from what has come out the admin could've been a little more crystal clear to a guy that had served there for a while.

Jerry didn't want a retirement tour. That's why it was kept a secret.
It was known that Cobb offered Moore a "promotion" to a fund-raising level this time last year after the Chris Moore situation.

So even if the AD did do what the other guy said, why were they in so much of a hurry to get rid of him? It's not like their football program fell off the planet. You can't win national championships EVERY year and it was still a nationally competitive program.

They are WRONG....
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
Re: War Of Words Between ASU's Peacock And Coach Moore
Yes SH, an athletic department shouldn't have the power to hire or fire their coaches because their not a general manger of an NFL team. That makes perfect fucking sense. I'm surprised you came up with that one all by yourself. I wish everyone here could be a smart as you so we can all lick Barney the Dinosaurs' fucking pussy and live happily every after. And the funny thing is the last sentance I wrote makes much more sense than the bullshit you spew.

Well, there is the obvious case of nepotism, but setting that aside ...JohnStOnge wrote:So even if the AD did do what the other guy said, why were they in so much of a hurry to get rid of him? Over the last few years a great deal of *stuff* has been going on behind the scenes in Boone. It's not really good *stuff*
North Carolina is a 'contributory negligence' State; I'll break it down this way:
Board of Trustees . . . . . 10%
Chancellor. . . . . . . . . . 20%
Administration . . . . . . . 14%
Athletic Dept . . . . . . . . 25%
Coaching Staff . . . . . . . 18%
Karma. . . . . . . . . . . . . 12%
Faculty . . . . . . . . . . . . 01%
As noted above, there is culpability all around, and folks can feel free to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic in any fashion they wish.

Looks like we're going to find out what happened and maybe more. The Watauga Democrat filed a a FOIA document with ASU and are going to put out a story on what actually happened. No matter what is disclosed this is going to reflect even more poorly on the university.

We did find out, and it backs up the statements of Cobb and Peacock. All of us will miss Coach Moore, but all good things must come to an end.

Yeah, reading all of those is tough. The initial letter seems a bit condescending to me.ASUG8 wrote:Looks like we're going to find out what happened and maybe more. Strangely familiar to what happened at Montana. I hope it works out better for ASU than it has for Montana. We'll see ASU fans August 31 in Missoula; by then maybe we can compare notes.bluehenbillk wrote:Minus the tickle monster stuff this sounds eerily similar to the PSU - Joe Paterno saga with contracts ending & & the administration simply not renewing the contract.
