Republican apologetics from George Will
I never thought I'd live to see this day - good lord the sky must be falling

But George forgot to explain why this duck (that walks and talks like one) isn't
And fondly recalling 1962 communist hysteria isn't really working to clear things up
It would have been more intellectually honest if George Will just said "Vote for Walker"
instead he chose to say "vote for Walker" by saying "Don't vote for Trump"

Actually, I think he explained it early in the article.

Actually, the splainin' was done in the last sentence. :coffee:

Yeah he did. But not in the way that you think.

"....conservatives today should deal with Trump with the firmness Buckley dealt with the John Birch Society in 1962. The society was an extension of a loony businessman who said Dwight Eisenhower was "a dedicated, conscious, agent of the Communist conspiracy." "

(pause for hilarity) :lmao: :lmao: :bananahump: :bananahump:  :loser:

The cream of the jest is, of course, that that loony business man George refers to was founding member Fred Koch, whose sons, (high ranking Birchers themselves in the 60s, owners of Scott Walker, the candidate who pays Will's wife's salary), are the tail that wags the GOP dog.

George may still have a bit more splainin to do...

The Walker stuff is old news, poundpud, and if you read Will regularly, you would have seen that disclaimer several times before.

All you can muster is your tired old Koch brothers schtick. You aren't even original. Don't you have some irrigation to attend to? :coffee:

In every town large enough to have two traffic lights there is a bar at the back of which sits the local Donald Trump, nursing his fifth beer and innumerable delusions....

tea partyers, those earnest, issue-oriented, book-club organizing activists...
Why 5th beer, and book club organizing?

Careful George, you're alienating an awful lot of the base.

Will can at times make sense but I think it's safe to say we're all a little dumber for reading this article.

BTW, this is a good lesson in democracy…the candidate who isn't flush with cash from the Koch brothers and Citizens United money is leading the pack. Again, we're not an oligarchy…we get the candidates and the governments we deserve.

Will's fondness for Walker aside, I don't think he misses the mark too badly on Trump. The man is clearly a political work in progress, shaping his stance on issues as he goes and more worried about a popularity contest than actually creating a plan that the average Joe can get behind. The scary thing is that it appears to be working - IMO, most people don't identify with the scorched earth, far right Tea Partiers and are a bit more centrist, which is what is appealing about Trump even though I don't believe he actually means any of it.

The message of not being a political insider or career politician and the promise of "straight talk, no BS, no political correctness, just get it done" is a message that does appeal to many. I personally don't care for the messenger. :coffee:

Donald Trump is a side show. At the end of the day it appears that his objective is to message his ego and gain respectability within the political elite. How far he is willing to go to do that is the question. He will have a very powerful voice in who becomes the next president, using his own money not that of others. I see no way that it will be the Donald and my guess is that when he started, neither did he.

I fail to see how he is ingratiating himself with the political elite, especially the GOP establishment.
