Tough drop from 1st to 4th in the last 200 meters in Women's cycling (road race) for the US rider who is apparently a great climber but not as good in other parts. Just could not hold on to the lead. Worse though is that a Dutch rider who was in the lead with about 5-10 miles to go tumbled hard and if she was only knocked unconscious she should consider herself lucky. This could be bad.

I happened to flip by NBC this afternoon and a Dutch chick cyclist was way out front, certain gold medal, and they said that it had just started to sprinkle a bit, as evidenced by water drops on the camera.

Low and behold, the chick goes into a sharp right downhill turn and into a power slide. It looked like she panicked and hit her front brake and did a face first header into the curb. She didn't move for minutes (and not at all before I left). Not sure if she's paralyzed or dead or whatever, but it was awesome.

It was awesome. Well worth looking for a replay.

NBC reported that unconfirmed sources said she was OK. Don't really know though.

She apparently is in the ICU and suffered a heavy concussion and three small fractures in her lumbar spine.

The relays aren't bad. And freestyle is the only stroke that should be allowed. All other strokes are the swimming equivalent of race walking.

I'm glad there are 80 different variations of swimming though, because the USA kills it in swimming.

When I was 10-12, and was on a swimming team. I was the only one who could do the butterfly and one of several who could effectively backstroke. I have a shit ton of blue ribbons in both. Fuck that waking up at 5:30 though. I like to enjoy my 3-4 weeks between lax and soccer/fhockey in the summers.

Swimming and hockey parents are the best because their kids have practices at the worst times.

Can't imagine the swimming meets (like track meets) are the most interesting to watch in person either.

It's one of the few events I like. It is a race and it is timed.
Far better than judges voting on synchronized diving or gymnastics.

BTW, fuck Brazil and their soccer team. Two games played and they have two ties (both 0-0) on their home turf.

Thoughts from watching the Olympics with my family this weekend.

1- My youngest, womens gymnastics "Why are we a watching all these girls with their butt's hanging out?"
2- Me on seeing Katie Ledecky "Wow! She got hit hard with the ugly stick" Laughter and then "THATS SO RUDE!"
3- Dad we watched volleyball, it was cool! "Beach Volleyball?" No. "Not interested" Oldest "Of course! Why wouldn't Dad want to watch beach volleyball"

They are on to me.

Oh, regarding the swimming events, NBC fails in that they do not show what the race is during the race (400m fly, 400m medley, etc). So if you are at a bar where it is difficult to hear the broadcast, you see them swimming but have no idea what the event is once it starts. Also, there is no way of knowing how much farther they have to go to the end if you start watching after the start. Totally reliant on the broadcasters.

Did anyone else notice that NBC began displaying the race info at the bottom of the screen last night? It's about time. Now all they need is some sort of gauge so we know how far the race has progressed, similar to a video clip.

At least at hockey practice you can put on a light jacket and be comfortable. There's nothing worse than walking into a heated, indoor pool venue. Humidity and chlorine smell. Fuck. That.

NBC has made many poor choices during this year's broadcasts. Starting with tape delaying the opening ceremonies and turning a two and a half hour opening ceremony and parade of nations into a five hour broadcast.

At least I got to see the Dutch cyclist chick crash live. So cool.

Saw this. That crash was awesome, the chic went head first over the handle bars and the swell of of her back smashed into a huge curb. All this going down hill at about 50 mph. I thought for sure she would never walk again, but they said she had minor injuries to her spine.
