Phils win 4-2 to complete a sweep of the Natinals. Bard Lidge records a 1-2-3 9th inning and saves every game in the series.
Congrats to Jamie Moyer, who earned his 250th win today!

Great start to a tough road trip. Phils beat Pads 5-3 on strength of a quality start by Blanton, another 1-2-3 save for Lidge, and consecutive bombs by Utley and Howard.

Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
Phils beat the Padres 10-5 last night. Ibanez continues his hot hitting with two home runs (18 and 19) and going 3 for 5 at the plate and .340 overall on the season. The other hot bat Adrian Gonzalez hit his 22nd home run of the season.
Also we got a good glimpse at the new pitcher in the rotation... who by the way has one of the best names in the Majors:
Antonio Bastardo - Six innings pitched allowing 1 run on 1 walk and 5 strike outs.
I'd heard about this guy last year, seems pretty decent... we had to send Mayberry down to the minors to make room. If you remember, Mayberry hit a home run in his first game (maybe first at bat) , wasn't doing to bad, but wasn't a regular player and we need pitching.
Also, if you remember Mayberry's home run at yankee stadium... they kept showing his "dad" in the stands, it turned out to be just some random guy wearing a Phillies hat in a "Puerto Rico" jersey.

Yeah, that was great. They finally realized the mistake late in the game and corrected themselves.JMU DJ wrote:Also, if you remember Mayberry's home run at yankee stadium... they kept showing his "dad" in the stands, it turned out to be just some random guy wearing a Phillies hat in a "Puerto Rico" jersey.
Ole' dirty Bastardo looked great in his debut. Good command. Fastball in the 94-95 mph range.
Chan Ho Park continued sucking.

Mayberry homered in his second at bat.

Tony the Bastard looked sweet last night, his pitches have a heckuva lot of movement on them. The whole world gets to see his next start, Sunday Night Baseball against the Dodgers in Chavez Ravine.

Heck Yes! I totally forgot that his suspension was up this week. Hopefully they can get that "Bridge to Lidge" routine working again... and Lidge can actually close out the game.bluehenbillk wrote:

Cole Hamels pitches a complete game and the Phillies shut out the Dodgers 3-0.

Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
Brad Lidge blows another save, his second in two days, and the Phillies and Dodgers are tied 2-2 in the 10th inning.
Last night was not entirely Lidges' fault, as a Pedro Feliz error with 2 out prolonged the game.
Today, Lidge surrendered a home run with 1 out in the 9th.

The Phillies would be up by 9 games if Lidge were perfect so far this year.93henfan wrote:6 blown saves.

How many more years is Lidge under contract? I appreciate Uncle Cholly's loyalty to his players, but...

Tony the Bastard strikes again, & Chan Ho shuts out the Dodgers for 3? Who wouldve thunk that?

I was watching this last night, I thought Manuel would take out Park after his showing in the bottom of the seventh. I almost crapped myself when I was trying to read the name on the back of the jersey for the "new" pitcher the phils had put out there in the 8th. He exceeded my expectations though.
Bastardo looked good again, I think Manuel was right to take him out in the 6th... He looked like his tank was running on empty.

You know Chan Ho sucks when he allows 3 runs, and they still call it a shut out.bluehenbillk wrote:Tony the Bastard strikes again, & Chan Ho shuts out the Dodgers for 3? Who wouldve thunk that?
j/k
I'm glad to see that Park pitched well. He is a logical choice for long reliever, provided that he can pitch reasonably well.
Happ and Bastardo have pitched well, but they are rookies. There will likely be a game where they get rocked early, the Phils may need Park.

Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
Phils come from behind to beat the Mets 5-4 in 11 innings.
Cole Hamels got off to a bad start and the Phils trailed 4-1 after 6 innings. The Phils scored 3 in the 7th to tie it at 4-4. Chase Utley has 2 home runs, including the game winner in the 11th. Ryan Madson pitched a perfect 11th for his 3rd save of the season.
Chan Ho Park pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief and Jayson Werth made a great, game saving, catch with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th.
This is a big win fo rthe Phils since the Mets won the first game of the series and Tim Redding is pitching for the Mets tonight. He has pitched well against the Phils in the past.

I'm clean, angry Ibanez says
NEW YORK - Raul Ibanez has a message for those who say his spectacular offensive performance in a Phillies uniform could be a result of performance-enhancing drugs.
"I'll come after people who defame or slander me," he said before last night's game against the New York Mets. "It's pathetic and disgusting. There should be some accountability for people who put that out there."
......
Ibanez said a team official made him aware of the speculation. While troubled by it, Ibanez said he was not surprised.
"Unfortunately, I understand the environment we're in and the events that have led us to this era of speculation," he said. "At the same time, you can't just walk down the street and accuse somebody of being a thief because they didn't have a nice car yesterday and they do today. You can't say that guy is a thief."
Ibanez said he had never used performance-enhancing drugs.
"You can have my urine, my hair, my blood, my stool - anything you can test," Ibanez said. "I'll give you back every dime I've ever made" if the test is positive.
"I'll put that up against the jobs of anyone who writes this stuff," he said. "Make them accountable. There should be more credibility than some 42-year-old blogger typing in his mother's basement. It demeans everything you've done with one stroke of the pen."
"Nobody is above the testing policy. We've seen that."
First, Haven't they figured out the Phillies are the only clean team in the majors?
Second, Ibanez had been a good offensive player for the past decade. He typically starts out slow and finishes the season real strong. This year he happens to be staring out with a bang.
Lastly, I agree with Ibanez on the accountability part. If you are a reporter on any level and you are going to go out and make unsubstantiated claims you might as well go work for one of those celebrity gossip magazines, because you've lost your credibility as a legitimate reporter.

However, it's wrong to accuse someone just because they are off to a hot start. Ibanez has always had good numbers, now he is in a hitters park. It should be no suprise that he is hitting well.
