I saw a former Republican Congressman on TV last night compare how the Republicans are acting right now to the Black Knight in the Holy Grail scene.

Bro, there are way more white people on food stamps and other forms of welfare. You might want to check your impacts on when food stamps run out.
Medicaid had more than 70 million beneficiaries in 2016, of whom 43 percent were white, 18 percent black, and 30 percent Hispanic. Of 43 million food stamp recipients that year, 36.2 percent were white, 25.6 percent black, 17.2 percent Hispanic and 15.5 percent unknown.

I didn't say anything about race. But since you brought it up, you're telling me (non hispanic) whites (62% of the population) are way under represented among medicaid (43%) and food stamp recipients (36%). No kidding.

Food stamp funding extended amid shutdown, but only through February

Like I said, when food stamp run put, that going to hit a large chunk of the donk base.

One of the most remarkable moments during the Senate luncheon came when McConnell told Pence that shuttering the government to try to secure funding for a border wall was not a smart approach.

“McConnell talked about how we need to bring this process to a close; we should never have had a shutdown; they don’t work; I’ve said this numerous times; I don’t know how many times I’ve told you there’s no education in the second kick of a mule,” said a GOP source familiar with the meeting.

The Trump GOP is imploding.
Republican senators clashed with one another and confronted Vice President Pence inside a private luncheon on Thursday, as anger hit a boiling point over the longest government shutdown in history.

“This is your fault,” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) at one point, according to two Republicans who attended the lunch and witnessed the exchange.

“Are you suggesting I’m enjoying this?” McConnell snapped back, according to the people who attended the lunch.

I just got an email from my boss. Because of the shutdown, our dental and vision insurance is not being paid, so if we want to continue it, we have to write a check to our insurance company for the full amount, which is about four times our normal premium. OPM is still deliberating about our regular health insurance. It may fall under the same guidance.

Thanks Trump.

One more kick to the nuts for the employees who are really struggling.

You should send the email to your representative, Senators, and anonymously to the major networks.

Any little pressure could help.

I edited my post above after my blood pressure went down. Right now it's our dental and vision insurance that we have to write a check for. Health insurance is still TBD, but I don't see why it would be any different. OPM is probably trying to hold off as long as possible on that notice, because it will be a MAJOR shitstorm.

I would guess the average family plan is about a $400-$500 premium per month. If OPM drops that bomb, people going without pay would have to write $2000/month checks to keep their family health insurance.

Here's another one for you, Trip. The Metro transit subsidy ($260/month) is backed up by an employee's personal credit card. The government stopped paying the subsidy on Jan 21, so February orders are starting to ship and they are billing employees' credit cards if they do not go in and cancel their order in time.

I'm going to check mine now...
WMATA has extended the deadline for February 2019 SmartBenefits orders to January 21, 2019. Federal agencies now have until January 21 to change the benefit status for furloughed employees. Employees should check their benefit status on or after January 22 to see if they will receive February benefits.

Begin by logging in to your SmarTrip account and selecting the card you use for your SmartBenefits.

On the right side of the screen, in the SmartBenefits, section, click the link that says "Upcoming Benefits". This will take you to a SmartBenefits dashboard that shows your enrollment status, either "Enrolled" or "On Hold".

If your SmartBenefits are "On Hold" and you use CommuterDirect to automatically buy MARC, MTA Commuter Bus, or VRE passes with SmartBenefits and you did not cancel your February order, then your personal credit card may be charged. If that happens, you can get a refund by mailing your February pass back to CommuterDirect. Return envelopes must be postmarked prior to the end of the January. For more information, visit commuterdirect.com.

Wow, in all the talk about not getting paid I didn't think about insurance. Jesus, what a kick to nads.

Meanwhile, you'll be damn sure to see them take money from you for taxes. Honestly, when this gov't reopens, everyone that that was affected should receive TAX FREE back pay. Or put it in the tax code to get the deduction. It's the very fucking least they can do for you all. 1 month of tax free pay is nothing to sneeze at.

Of course they will. They're cold motherfuckers.

Just look at the comments already from Trump's economic advisor Kevin Hassett (it's a vacation for them), Trump's Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross (I don't understand why they go to food banks, just get a loan and pay me interest), or Trump's daughter in law (it's just a small sacrifice, let them eat cake).

Hah good one, that's hilarious.

Trump Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross's bank is offering loans at 8.99% interest, because he's just an all-around nice guy.

Any resolution to the shutdown should include mechanisms to ensure that politicians can't shut down the government like this again. It makes no sense that this can and has happened multiple times across decades. I won't hold my breath that politicians will want to do that, as politicians on both sides appear to be plenty content that this kind of situation can and does arise - all the better to score political points with apparently. But it should be something that gets passed as soon as this shutdown finally ends.
