Some of the classified stuff they found in his house dates back to his tenure as a Senator. So he's been holding on to some classified information for more than a decade now. What a fantastic document control system we have going on at the federal level.

Kind of related to the bureaucracy aspect of it - yes, it's too unwieldly to control, at least as it relates to document control and confidentiality control. Of course there are going to be too many things classified and of course there are going to be instances, many, of these not being controlled they way they should. None of this should be surprising. And neither should it be surprising that both political parties will try to leverage it to their advantage over the other party. That's just what we do.

I wonder how many of the Biden docs have been declassified since. I'm guessing the markings don't magically disappear when they are declassified at another location.

Also, how did the National Archives know that documents from the Trump Admin were missing but not know about the docs that Biden had?

Well, this is Biden's DOJ for starters as well. As much as the DOJ isn't political, it's still political. It is headed by a guy who's been a political volleyball over the past decade.

Oh, and now former VP Pence has classified information that has showed up in his house. Frankly, if anyone from any White House tries to claim they don't have some classified material in their possessions I would be inclined to think they are hiding something, as apparently it's common for classified material to walk (or be boxed) out of the White House.

There has to be several better ways to maintain the security of our classified documents than whatever it is the government is currently doing.
