Compare this to Obama - Romney or Obama - McCain. We were actually arguing about policy.

This election is just a shitshow and an argument about which candidate is less shitty. What ridiculous thing Trump tweeting, whatever new corruption revelation about Clinton, etc.

I've always been generally pretty optimistic.... but, we're so fucking screwed with this election....

It is sad.
But in reality, broken promises by candidates make me tune them out anyway, unless they pound it out for 12 months. Then I feel like they are obligated to do something. But then there was the promise of the ACA. Yeah, Obama delivered. But it's poorly designed and was sold on lies. It is not sustainable without large scale modifications and Obama is too stubborn to do anything about it.

The one thing that this election has done, it has revealed the character of each candidate. Both have suffered because of it. I think it would have been helpful to know how deceitful Obama is prior to his election. But, as you said, it was a policy election (along with an anti-Bush and race election).

Except that wouldn't fit what actually happened over the weekend. She was supposedly diagnosed on Friday and then went to fundraisers. So if she would've skipped the 9/11 memorial that would've shown that her donors are more important than remembering 9/11 (which they probably are).

Are you serious? The answer to your question is obvious. The other realistic alternative lies even more. And he's completely nuts. I can't believe you even asked that question.

If you want to say Clinton is dishonest, fine. But the problem you have is that Trump is even MORE dishonest. Plus he's got the emotional maturity of a 12 year old and has absolutely no clue.

Just popping in to do a public service by calling your attention to an aspect of what's going on with the polls. A factor in what's going on is that, as the election gets closer, more people are starting to use "likely voters" models instead of just going with registered voters. Trump does better when the "likely voters" models are used. Actually, historically, Republicans have done better when "likely voters" models are used.

I look at the ABC News Washington Post poll as the best one. And if you go to its latest report at http://www.langerresearch.com/wp-conten ... ection.pdf you can see it explained this way:

With Labor Day past, ABC has moved to focusing vote-preference estimates on likely voters,
who account for about 57 percent of all adults in this survey’s estimates.

If we were still going with "registered voters" as the ABC News Washington Post poll had been doing until the most recent report, the report would have been that Clinton had a 10 point lead over Trump in a 4 way race (45% to 35%). But since they have now moved to using "likely voters," the lead is 5 points (46% to 41%).

You can see the same kind of thing in the latest poll currently posted at the RealClearPolitics site. It's the Fox News ORC poll. The report is based on "likely voters." The 2 way has Trump up by 1 and the 4 way has Clinton up by 1. But if they were still going with "registered voters" it would be Clinton up by 3 in the 2 way and by 4 in the 4 way.

I think the race has closed to some extent regardless. But the perception is exaggerated by the post Labor Day increase in utilizing "likely voters" models.

And I do think the media for the most part are missing this. Take the ABC News Washington Post poll for example. If they were doing the same thing methods wise as they did last month they'd be saying Clinton has a 10 point lead and their poll would be saying pretty much the same thing as it said a month ago.

I am not in denial at all. I fully recognize that the absolute disaster of having Trump end up as President is possible. I fully recognize that there are enough people in this country that are stupid enough to vote for him to allow for that to happen.

Trump apparently trolled all the major news networks today. He put out notice that he had a big birther announcement on Obama (he admitted Obama was born in the US), but before that, he had a parade of veterans (Generals, Medal of Honor winners) and gold star families give nearly 40 minutes of ringing endorsements for him, all aired free and live on the major networks.
