He confessed to the crime. Doesn't that mean there won't be a trial, just a sentencing? His day in court will be a judge calling him a scumbag and sentencing him to die.

There still has to be a formal trial with an elocution (admission) before the court, AND the judge must accecpt his plea and elocution.
If this is a capital case, there's a slim chance in hell the judge will accept a guilty plea, as it would unequivocally be overturned on appeal, which is automatic in a capital case.

So...no, his confession doesn't preclude a trial.

In my opinion a terrorist is somebody who uses terror as a tactic. For example: You plant bombs then detonate bombs in various public places so that people come to worry about whether or not a bomb is going to blow them up when they go out to eat or go to the mall. Or you blow up airliners to make people afraid to fly.

On a larger scale I think terror was routinely used by both sides during World War II. The bombing of Dresden was, to me, a terrorist attack. The allies were being terrorists. Dropping the two atomic bombs on Japan was also a terrorist approach. The idea was to terrorize.

I really don't know if that's what this guy was doing. I don't know if his objective was to make Blacks everywhere feel like they had to worry about him trying to kill them.

And by the way I think we kind of miss the mark when we talk about what's going on with Islamists a "war on terror." To me terror is one tactic used by the enemy in that war but it's not the only one. It would be more correct, in my opinion, to say that we are in a war with Islamists than to say that we are in a war with terrorists.

Very proud of South Carolina, in particular Charleston and more than any one else the people that suffered the most from this horrific act. They have shown us all that what it means to be humane in the face of tragedy.

The only stain is that the shooter was from South Carolina. I wish I could have the same feelings of humanity toward that animal as the victims family have shown.
