Re: Are you wearing a mask?
Here's a link to a June 2020 paper on Masks from the Mayo Clinic. Explaining that the droplets are the reason for wearing the masks, along with social distancing.
Mayo Clinic Link
Perhaps more importantly, masks drastically reduce the number of droplets that make it beyond the wearer’s mask and into their surroundings. This insight may be critical for coronavirus. Preliminary analysis of nasals swabs from asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals indicate that they appear to have similar viral loads.6 Using a mask allows even those who do not suspect that they are infected to reduce the probability of transmission. Added to social distancing, this barrier could reduce the number of viral copies making contact with others and coming to rest on surfaces, waiting for the unwitting brush of a hand that later meets the face.

So, are people lying to the survey folks or is mask wearing not the panacea it's made out to be? England's bringing back fans to live sporting events next week and they aren't wearing masks according to this survey and other articles.

Re: Are you wearing a mask?
Read a study on how likely do people lie on surveys and the study found that up to 50% of people lie.
Now that also brings to mind if the people filling out that survey were telling the truth.

Re: Are you wearing a mask?
If we're thinking of the same post there was a question about when the GMA show aired (was it prior to masks being recommended) and discussion that masks aren't to protect the wearer from the virus but to protect the wearer from possibly spreading the virus.
Don't refuse to wear a mask and/or social distance and then bitch about no football.

Re: Are you wearing a mask?
If everyone wore a mask, Covid-19 could be brought under control
The stark case, described on Tuesday in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, adds to the near-universal scientific consensus that, more than any of single action short of everyone entering solitary confinement, face coverings can prevent the transmission of the coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

Given the choice to believe GMA or the Mayo Clinic, I'll go with Mayo Clinic.
Mayo Clinic Link
Can face masks help slow the spread of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19? Yes, face masks combined with other preventive measures, such as frequent hand-washing and social distancing, help slow the spread of the virus.
So why weren't face masks recommended at the start of the pandemic? At that time, experts didn't know the extent to which people with COVID-19 could spread the virus before symptoms appeared. Nor was it known that some people have COVID-19 but don't have any symptoms. Both groups can unknowingly spread the virus to others.

That strategy doesn't work. No one will ever accept any amount of responsibility for anything in this country.
What they shoulda told the "you can't tell me what to do" crowd is that you should NEVER wear masks, because it... I dunno, frightens the snowflake children or is racist against Mexican banditos or something.
Anti-maskers would have fallen over themselves to mask up.

Re: Are you wearing a mask?
lol, or Spanky Trump could have said something like, Lets all come together as a nation and defeat this virus by wearing a mask, social distancing and washing hands. Of course we could have lost the CNN if Trump had said that.Silenoz wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 2:29 pmThat strategy doesn't work. Re: Are you wearing a mask?
It only took until mid-July for Trump to tweet out that wearing a mask is "patriotic". He's only 3 months or so behind.

Hand out confederate flag masks and call them freedom or victory masks.
Btw, new study out of UC Davis suggests mask reduce infection threat for wearers by 65%.

I think the big thing that came out of the study (and others btw) is that wearing it doesn't just reduce the spread, but can significantly reduce the viral load if you contract it. And it's possibly the difference from being very sick to being asymptomatic, or slightly sick.

Yep, that’s what I’ve read as well. It’s also why limited time indoors with anyone outside of your household is a good idea.∞∞∞ wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 6:36 amI was listening to NPR this morning and they had a segment about this (haven't read your link yet).kalm wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 5:42 am

I find interesting that we really don’t have any radical anti-maskers on this forum. Warms my heart, actually.
