NDSU addresses security at basketball games following IUPUI complaint

FARGO - North Dakota State said it will probably station a police officer behind the opposing team's bench for all basketball games following a complaint of rude fan behavior at the Bison-IUPUI men's game Thursday night

Bison athletic director Gene Taylor said three Bison fans were responsible for riding the Jaguars team in the course of the IUPUI's 66-52 win at the Bison Sports Arena. IUPUI head coach Ron Hunter said some of the comments had a racial tone.

Taylor said NDSU normally has an enforcement officer behind the opposing team's bench for the more well-attended games like South Dakota State, Oakland University (Mich.) or Oral Roberts. There were plenty of empty seats Thursday behind the IUPUI bench.

While talking to the AD's of many many other schools, because he is on a first name basis with them ( all close personal friends), getting some great OOC games set up for the next couple years to tide the Bison over until they make the jump to the NFL.

Im sure Commissioner Goodell (sp?) would be sitting in CBA negotiations and if lakes or the AD at NDSU called he'd be like "whoa whoa whoa guys, I HAVE to take this...its NDSU, Ive been talking with them about becoming the 33rd NFL team..." (since every single player is naturally immediately NFL ready and all)

From my knowledge they didn't have a vote on it. So technically from the comment one other poster made about the tribes approving the name is wrong. Only one tribe officially approved it...one less for NCAA approval of the name. UND is SO much better off just getting rid of the name. Their glorified hockey coach and al carlson are to blame for the shit storm ensuing right now for the university.

I do check in periodically, but it seems whenever I do, I see bison fans abusing themselves. While this used to be funny, I really don't care that much anymore.

UND is heading to the Big Sky for most sports, just found good homes for the Men's and Women's Swim/Dive teams and UND hockey will be announcing a new conference on Wednesday.

So, you see, the places and conferences that UND is joining don't involve NDSU, so I'm not quite sure why some of the NDSU fans continue the juvenile behavior.

In regards to the Fighting Sioux name.... I grew up in Grand Forks, graduated from UND and have been a Sioux fan my whole life. That being said, it is time to change the name. The clock ran out on the settlement, UND didn't get the required approvals per the NCAA settlement. To continue the use of the name/logo and to face NCAA sanctions is harmful to the University as a whole and to the athletic department. Time to retire the name.
