Like Arizona? ;)

You're absolutely right, and water may be the next resource that wars are fought over. There are already some serious political and property rights battles being waged over water use out here in the west.

Well, I never heard that one.

But, to me it's like you saying, "Hey, Bill, I'm thinking of going to Duluth, Minnesota, for some salmon fishing. Wanna go?" And I say, "Like, Dude, Duluth is, like, right in my backyard!" Even though it's three and a half hours away, especially in consideration of where you are.

It's figuratively in my backyard.

Get it?

There is an interesting realted issue - we're closing in on 7 Billion humans pretty fast...
Estimates suggest we'll be at 14 Billion in 100 years

Yup...
we're multiplying so fast we will likely double the entire global population in 100 years

We better hope the planet cycles a HUGE temperature shift (and fast) something wacky and inhospitable in short order would be preferable - just to slow down the incessant breeding

COME ON GLOBAL WARMING..!!!

Or the scientists that take money from Exxon-Mobil to smear/discredit falsely legitimate research that shows the Globe IS warming, and that warming has accelerated in the past 30-40 years, and is definately influenced by man.
Definitely influenced by man? really? How do you know that?

There is as much evidence for it as there is against it... :coffee:
it's simply come down to "what you want to believe" vs. "what you don't want to believe"

The evidence for and against is no longer even the issue  it's the hearts and minds that have settled in on an idea and now no matter what new evidence is submitted (regarding human contribution or natural progression) it does not matter - minds are made up doors are closed on both sides

The real debate on global warming isn't really whether something is happending with the climate, right? I mean there is some pretty sound empirical evidence to suggest that things are occuring.

The real debate is whether or not said changes were influenced by man or even if not influenced by man, whether or not man can do anything to slow or stop the change.

I understand the debate and I don't have an answer (nor does anyone else for that matter), but I don't understand why, if this is the question, people would be against taking steps which we think could help, "just in case" we really did cause it?

Should we just wait around and point fingers when the world is about to implode?

Am I missing something?

I agree 100000%, and that's why I never questions another's beliefs. I have problems with religion myself (there a lot of hypocritical philosophies) and with people who feel the need to push their religion on me.

If we take 500 years to study the climate, which barely rates as a fraction of the age of the earth, I think we'll have plenty of time, to try to reverse any negative effects we may have created. What some are attempting to do now is establish policy because the tide is coming in, which looks like a flood if you've never seen it before.

Research away. No problem with that. It seems the smart thing to do. But I don't think we should all have to turn our lives upside down on what can today only be considered preliminary data.

Yeah, Dancer, but you hit on something that most of us ignore, the "turn our lives upside down" thing. You really beleive we're doing that? Are you, really? Heck, I listen to the news and read the reports and nothing gigantic changes for me. I do try to use less gas as a result of the information, though, That can't be bad, can it? If we all did little things like buying more efficient vehicles and conserving, that data you're talking about may be less onerous in a hundred years, right?

The only people who seem to be turning their lives upside down about this are the deniers, getting all lathered up the way they do. Check out some of Tman's posts. Is all that necessary?

Capn'
You make a point I've been trying to make to T-man for going on 4 years now...
He just HATES the fact that somebody is makin' money off of the Global Warming scare - becuase it can't be that anything has actually "changed" in his life...

It's just that somebody is getting over on somebody else - and it's not a capitalist imperial free market scam like the ones he enjoys... it's a Liberal Scam..!!! So he's pissed about it...

it's that simple

But as far as "Lives being turned upside down" please show me one example..?
