True, they do commit a lot of crime/terrorism.

This would be great for the Thompson area. The facility was built a few years ago, state of the art first rate modern detention facility. Due to the political mess that IL was in with Gov Baloneyvich, he never would either staff the site or put inmates there, even though other facilities were overcrowded.

If it can be leased/sold to the feds, it would be a fantastic thing for the economy of the area.

True about this being great for Thomson.

That prison is a microcosm of the Charlie Foxtrot that is Illinois politics. They spend a crapload of $ to build a new more efficient prison (finished in 2001) and the Democrats don't open it up because the unions don't want them to close down an existing prison that is much more expensive to run because the staff will either have to move or find other jobs. This costs a financially strapped state millions. Then they announce that they are investigating selling the prison to the Feds and the Republicans come out of the walls screaming about the security risk despite the fact that the town and area want the prison open and the jobs that it will bring. Everyone but the die-hard conservatives ignore the Republicans and their sky is falling rhetoric and wonder why the heck they can't focus on important issues and actually get some traction in the post-Blago era.

Take the terrorists and turn them loose on the streets of Compton at 10pm on a Saturday night at the first of the month... there will be no need for a prison.
