That Largo/Hillsborough game was more one sided than the score indicated. Largo has no QB so they ran the single wing all night. I think they threw the ball 3 times.http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20 ... to-victory
CHS will play Cape next week for a trip to the quarters. The game against Gulf Coast was such a blowout, the second half was played with a running clock.![]()
Hillsborough roughed up Largo, and Armwood won pretty easily. They'll match up to determine CHS/Cape's QF opponent.
Bellamy eclipsed 7,000 career yards in the game.Shame he's goin' to Clempsun.

Oregon did things a bit differently this year, too. Classification has been determined based usually on enrollment (1A the smallest to 6A the biggest), but the exception is Portland-Jefferson which has enrollment as a 4A but has been kept at 6A due to the ease of scheduling (the other Portland city public schools are 6A) and their recent success in athletics at 6A. 4A and 5A have resisted efforts of moving Jefferson to the proper level enrollment-wise as well as Jefferson.
1A through 4A are based traditionally (conference champs and second place finishers qualify) but this year, 5A and 6A experimented with a ratings system (people called it similar to the BCS rankings, I thought it more in the line with our RPI system). 5A and 6A conference champs all got byes in the first round, then the other qualifiers were placed in a "play-in" round based on the ratings. This was experimented with this year, and it is unclear whether this will be the norm and whether the other classes will adopt it.

PA also starts their playoffs before the regular season ends. Most teams schedule 12 games, but the playoffs (at least here in SE PA) start after week 10.Franks Tanks wrote:I think PA does it well. We have 4 classes by enrollment and every school in the state participates. Teams typically need at least 7 wins, sometimes 8, to make the playoffs so only good teams are rewarded.
The state is broken out as West-Central and East. Everything west of Harrisburg is in the West for playoffs to keep the popualtions even.
The 4 classifications are pretty even as well
A-141 schools
AA-149
AAA- 148
AAAA- 151
My sons HS usually schedules a non-conference opponent for the 11th game, that way if they make the playoffs they still play all of their rivals. They lost their playoff game last Friday (Nov. 12), but they have one game left - Thanksgiving Day.
If they had won 2 playoff games they would have to make a decision as to whether or not to play 2 games in 2 or 3 days (final regular season game on Thanksgiving Day and third playoff game on either Friday night or Saturday).
Last year Pottsgrove and St. Pius X were scheduled to play each other on Thanksgiving and both were still alive in the playoffs, so they played on Thanskgiving but only used their reserves and saved their starters for their respective playoff game.

Bellvue won 3A in Washington on Friday for something like the 8th time in 10 years after drubbing some school from Tri-Cities 38-0, and Ferris (Spokane) beat Skyline (Sammamish) in 4A tonight. I think this was the 4th consecutive year that Ferris and Skyline had met in the playoffs (and the first time that Ferris won the match-up).

the city of Tampa went 1-2 in their state championship games. Congrats to the Jefferson Dragons on winning their 1st ever state title. Plant ran into a machine (STA) and Armwood played their worst game at the worst time.
