LOL.
Just play the OT like it was regulation, only each team gets the same number of possessions. If Team A scores on it's second possession and Team B has only had the ball once, Team B gets the ball one more time. Kind of like extra innings in baseball. Each team gets the same number of possessions until the tie is broken.
Agreed. They're taking a system that is f'ed up, making it less f'ed up, but its still going to be f'ed up. A team could receiver the coin toss, score a TD, and then the game is over without the other team getting a possession.

Yeah, the folks saying both teams get a possession are wrong. If the first team scores a TD (under this proposal), the game is over. The other team only gets a possession if the first team kicks a FG.

Hen: The folk saying that both teams get a possession are not necessarily misrepresenting the current proposal. I think that they're saying (and I agree) that the proposal should be modified such that the provision tying it to a FG is removed, thereby assuring that each team has a possession regardless of the result of the first drive.

I do like the "extra innings" proposal. But (and this may kill what little cred I have on this thread) I would like to eliminate at least preseason OT altogether, if not regular season OT as well. It's absolutely REQUIRED for post-season unless we go to two-leg rounds a la soccer, and even then there has to be some way to break a tie if we have reciprocal scores. But OT prior to the playoffs (especially in pre-season) gets a lot of people hurt. I have no problem with regular season or pre-season ties. But I also have no problem if OT remains. Elimination of it is more along the lines of a preference for me, not something that absolutely HAS to happen.

Eh. IMO this is a stupid proposal. Why does the other team only get the ball if the opposition gets a FG? Let's say you have a fluke play that results in a TD, like maybe the Broncos/Bengals TD at the end of the game this year. That is deemed to be a worse defensive result than say a team driving from their 5 to the opposition 5 and settling for a FG? Not IMO.

Better option IMO is 8-10 minute OT's played out. Still tied, it's a tie. No big deal. Playoffs.... 8-10 minute OT played out. Still tied, then sudden death.
