JMU has always had great student turnout which is great for the atmosphere it provides, at least in the 1st half when they're actually in their seats. But it doesn't help financially at the gate as the revenue for those seats is less than selling to the general public.

At least you have that option.BDKJMU wrote:Sine JMU only has 5 home games for next yr (4 CAA + opener vs CCSU 9/10), I hope for god's sake don't schedule a Div II just to get a 6th home game. If going to get a 6th home game, may as well make it a weak/patsy I-AA in order for it to count as a Div I win.

And we all know that college football (particularly at our level) is all about the money.bluehenbillk wrote:JMU has always had great student turnout which is great for the atmosphere it provides, at least in the 1st half when they're actually in their seats. I say if the students want in, let them in. But, I will agree with you that there's a serious issue with students staying. They go the hang of it by the W&M game this year, but, uh, that was a little late considering we had two home games where we blew a halftime lead.
Thankfully the new stadium will probably allow all the students and all the general public that want to get in to get in.

I thought I heard a rumor that we paid Morehead State around 50K, but I have no idea how accurate that is.

Paid parking is pretty much all Duke Club donations paid by May due date, so wasn't trying to figure that into a per game profit.jd of de wrote:16k but only 10k paid? 6k students is a good turnout for, what a 15-17k undergrad enrollment? I just did the quick 15k-16k avg attendance @ $25 and added another $15 for parking and concessions.BDKJMU wrote:
Last year single game gen admission tickets I think might have been $20, not sure. Season tickets for 6 home games (this doesn't include Duke Club "donations" of course):
Chairback $140/about $23 a game
Priority $100/about $17 a game
Priority Faculty & Staff $80/about $13 a game
Gen $80/about $13 a game
Family Pack $200 for 4/$50 a ticket/$12.50 per ticket a game
Think Avg about 16k attendance, but only 10k+ paid tickets at an avg of maybe $15+ a pop plus concessions profit JMU likely netted well under 200k for a home game.
Now 2011 all season ticket prices are going up for 5 (as of now) home games (1 less game):
Club $550/$110 a game (about 1k of these seats, doubt they all sell out)
Chairback $250/$50 a game (about 1k of these seats, doubt they all sell out)
Priority $125/$25 a game
Priority Faculty & Staff $100/$20a game
Gen admin $100/about $20 a game
Family Pack $300 for 4/$75 a ticket/about $19 per ticket a game
I imagine single game gen admission tickets will be $25.
Now my guess is JMU will avg 12-14k paid tickets a game at an avg of $25-$30 a ticket + concessions, so yeah, think JMU will net 300-400k for a home game.
I was guessing for this season would avg 12-14k paid, 6-7k students, + another 1k+ non paid (band, players alotment, etc). That would leave an attendance avg of between 19-22k. AD said they want to avg 22k, I think it will be closer to 19.
Will have 3 big attendance games: opener, HC, and Parents'. If have 5 games might mean only 2 that will fall under 20k. If @ UNC is replaced with a 6th home game of another lesser I-AA that will likely mean 3 sub 20k attendance games, dragging the attendance avg down.

Over on the Zone someone said something about 60k to get a patsy to come, so the 50-60k ballpark sounds about right.mcveyrl wrote:SuperHornet wrote:What's JMU's typical home payout for a peer school?

Playing UNC on 9/3 after all!
"UNC Game On; Dukes Add More Recruits Posted January 29, 2011 12:00 AM EST

HARRISONBURG - James Madison will open the football season in Chapel Hill after all.
JMU athletic director Jeff Bourne said Friday that North Carolina officials informed him the Tar Heels would be able to host the Dukes on Sept. 3, as the two teams had originally contracted.
"I guess they'll work it out to be able to play us," Bourne said. "I think it's good news from the standpoint of that's what we originally scheduled. We've done a great deal of planning for next fall anyway."
Even though it was under contract to play the Division I-AA Dukes on Sept. 3, North Carolina agreed to host a I-A opponent, Louisville, on that date. It hoped to move the JMU game to a later date, but Madison's only opening was its Oct. 22 bye week and it did not want to play a I-A game that late in the season.
If it had chosen to break its contract with JMU, UNC would have faced a sizeable financial penalty. Instead, it decided to honor the contract with the Dukes and cancel its plans to play Louisville on that day.
"We were asking people to accommodate us," UNC senior associate athletic director Larry Gallo said Friday. "I know why people would not want to adjust their schedule now."
Gallo said the problem arose when Tennessee backed out of a scheduled game against the Tar Heels for the 2011 season, creating an opening UNC needed to fill with a I-A opponent, preferably for a home game.
With Louisville likely off the Tar Heels' schedule, Gallo said the school has an alternative opponent lined up to fill UNC's final open date but declined to name the team.
According to the contract between the JMU and North Carolina, if UNC backed out of the game, it would have had to pay JMU $600,000. Instead, Madison will be paid $350,000 for playing in Chapel Hill.
The Dukes open the 2011 season against the Tar Heels, then host Central Connecticut State on Sept. 10 and play at Liberty on Sept. 17, before beginning Colonial Athletic Association play.
The CAA schedule - released earlier - has the Dukes playing at William & Mary on Sept. 24, hosting Richmond (Oct. 1), Maine (Oct. 8) and Villanova (Oct. 15) before the bye week. JMU finishes with three of its final four games on the road. It is at Old Dominion on Oct. 29, at New Hampshire on Nov. 5, at home against Rhode Island on Nov. 12 and at Massachusetts on Nov. 19.
Bourne said Friday that construction at Bridgeforth Stadium is on schedule and the venue should become available to the football team on Aug. 1.
JMU is expanding the stadium to approximately 25,000 seats - an increase of about 10,000......."
