Okay, maybe the USA group is the group of death - Germany, Ghana (possibly best African side), USA, and Portugal (get to see Ronaldo).
Tough draw, but every game is fun to watch.

The second game for the US is in Manuas, probably the hardest to get to place in the World Cup - deep in the Amazon.

Group B is pretty tough too - the last two finalists in Spain and the Netherlands, a very good Chile side, and then, well, Australia. Well, three good teams.

Ghana has not lost to Uncle Sam in the last 2WCs ('06-10)and they will not next year!!!! I wish that Ghana and Uncle Sam could meet for the whole ball of wax!!!!GannonFan wrote:Okay, maybe the USA group is the group of death - Germany, Ghana (possibly best African side), USA, and Portugal (get to see Ronaldo).

Uh, there was never any real chance that Ghana and the US would meet in the finals.dal4018 wrote:Ghana has not lost to Uncle Sam in the last 2WCs ('06-10)and they will not next year!!!! The US could beat Ghana, it's not like they were outclassed in the other two matches. Granted, Ghana was the better side then and likely will be favored now, but it's quite possible to see the US beat them this time around.

Oh, and the England Italy match is also in the hinterlands of the Amazon and will actually kickoff at 2AM England time (3AM Italy time). Prime time viewing for us (9PM) but terrible for those countries considering they, as entire nations, watch these games.

US will be pretty hard pressed to get out of that group. On the bright side, we did trounce Germany's C-team this summer.

Re: 2014 WORLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIP IN BRAZIL
C & H are the easiest. We were so close to being in Group H - 50/50 shot with 2 balls remaining and lost out on one of the easiest groups and instead went to 1 of the toughest. When the 4th pod was being picked, with 3 balls remaining, it was Portugal, Russia and Bosnia - and we got the toughest there as well. No luck in this draw at all.
If the US continues to improve as it did this year, we can fight for the ties and hope to get a win in there as well.

Eh, we had an easy draw in 2010 and didn't get out of the group. Being in a tough group isn't a death sentence for advancing, just like an easy group isn't a cake-walk either. Remember, Germany and Portugal and even Ghana are saying, after they saw who they could've been pared with out of Pot 3, "crap, we got the USA".tribe_pride wrote:C & H are the easiest. Re: 2014 WORLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIP IN BRAZIL
We got to the Round of 16 in 2010 by winning our Group with a win over Algeria and 2 ties to England and Slovenia. Lost to Ghana in OT in the Round of 16. If it were in the round robin stage, it would have been a tie.GannonFan wrote:Eh, we had an easy draw in 2010 and didn't get out of the group. I am not calling for doom - just that we were close to having an easier draw then we did. the good news is that whoever advances out of the group stage in Group G gets to face the Group H teams in the round of 16. And definitely agree that the other teams would have rather faced anyone else in our pot but the US.

Easily the toughest draw for the US in recent memory. They'll probably be worthy of a parade by simply making it through.

Re: 2014 WORLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIP IN BRAZIL
Just wanted to bump this to see how it turns out. And, see how "predictable" the World Cup is.GannonFan wrote:It does seem like a lot of work just to get to this when you figure that the only teams that have an actual chance to win the World Cup are, and probably in order:
1. Brazil
2.
3.
4.
5. Spain (yeah, real big gap between the hosts and everyone else)
6. Italy
7. Argentina
8. Germany
9. Netherlands
And that's really it. I mean, it's fun to watch happen, but the end result is pretty well known. It's become the NBA playoffs in a way, very predictable.
Spain is eliminated.
Italy just got beat by Costa Rica (but, still probably through to the knockout)

But still, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, and the Netherlands are still there, and three of them are through to the next round (Argentina's group is crap, they were through when the draw came out). Would you make a bet that none of them wins the whole thing (which was the point of the original post)? I wouldn't.
