Tell that to Wyoming who has gone after multiple high schools to protect it's logo.

I still want to know why Wyoming chose to use the 2 feces colors for their school colors.

I thought feces were just poop. Unless you poop yellow a lot but I would contend that green is a more common color.

Yeah, I'm not sure how much permission these schools need. Local HS here are the Patriots and they used to have the old Pats logo and when they changed to the new one, so did the HS.

I think most pro leagues (NFL, MLB, etc.) allow the use, but you have to go through their selected provider to purchase those uniforms. A few years ago, MLB interfered with a Chicago-area little league because they were buying their unis from an unauthorized provider (obviously at a cheaper rate).

Bozeman High School (Hawks) use to have the same logo as the hawkeyes, except BHS was Black/Red/White. They had the logo for about 10 years or so. Then we had a Kicker that was recruited by about every school in the country ( Travis Dorsch). He ended up picking Purdue over Iowa, and 2 weeks later the school got a letter that said we had to change it. The joke around town was Dorsch cost us our logo.

Interesting. 1946, the year the Cleveland Rams moved to Los Angeles was also the year Colorado A&M College adopted "CAM the Ram" as its mascot. They were the CAM Aggies until 1957, when they became the Colorado State University Rams.

Extremely common. Arguably the best program in western Pennsylvania (Central Catholic) stole the Minnesota Vikings logo. My alma mater often used various Eastern Michigan logos for different sports, which was rather hilarious considering Eastern Michigan's teams are the Eagles and Bethel Park's are the Black Hawks...

Bethel's football logo is 'original', as in it's a coked-out version of the Iowa Hawkeye. The football uniforms are borrowed from another Big Ten school, this time Illinois (with the navy replaced by black and the orange far more obnoxious).

It's pretty commom obviously, from the number of examples here. Georgia Southern has had their logo(s) used a couple times, too. The way I understand it, you HAVE to go after other people that use your logo in order to keep the copyright intact. If you knowingly allow others to use it without your permission enough times, you basically lose your copyright protection by default. That is how it was described to me.

Most times, they just send a letter to tell them to quit doing it so that it is on record. A lot of times they will also "sell" them the rights to use it for like $1 or something like that. Most schools don't really care, but have to protect their copyright.

Don't feel bad. Some D-III school up in New England uses the old UD "Dick the Chicken" logo. I forget what college it is, but I'm sure some UD fan can name it.

Trinity College and the logo wasn't stolen. UD gave Trinity the permission to use the Tubby Raymond designed logo at the request of the Bantams' former coach. Not coincidentally, Don Miller starred for Dave Nelson's Blue Hens at QB in the '50's.

I'm not a copyrite lawer, but as an artist I have had to do some research on image copywrite law. I'm pretty sure that any change from the original image such as color or flipping the image releases the borrowing party from liability.
These "infractions" usually occur when an organization such as a high school or little league team needs a logo and there is nobody on staff with the talent to get it done, or no resources to pay an outsider.

During the ODU-UD game I watched a short piece on Tubby Raymond and his artwork. I have to say that is one impressive gentleman. Not only was he a great athlete in football and baseball, a hall of fame coach, and the face of UD football, but he gives each starter a portrait of themselves as a senior. BTW he is a fantastic artist.

I know none of this is news to any UD alum or fan, and probably not to many fans of other CAA teams. For me part of the great thing about now being in the CAA for football is learning things like this about your new rivals.

out here in washington, one of the longest running rivalries (105+ meetings) is between the Hoquiam Grizzlies and the Aberdeen Bobcats - The Grizzlies use Maroon(or crimson) and Silver and the Bobcats use Blue and Gold

Hoquiam used the Griz paw that the grizzlies use, but are currently using one that looks like the Hawai'i logo but red


and Aberdeen uses one that looks rather similar to Montana State's Bobcat logo
