SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Jeffery Loria is THE reason why pur attendance has been so bad over the years. I firmly believe that if we had an ownership and front office that actually WANTED to win instead of finding ways to line their pockets, we would have a much, much stronger fanbase. No one trusts Loria, he's a colossal douchebag from the nether regions of hell. And is hellbent on destroying a franchise that he looks at as his hobby.Just another reason why the marlins suck. Not to mention the managers he's run off in that same timespan. Girardi, Rodriguez...

You can add Donald Sterling and various owners of the Padres to that list, too. It's gotta suck to get in a great rookie, only to run him off and become Sixth Man of the Year (or even better) playing elsewhere. But these owners don't care. They're either pure profit guys, or (like Sterling), they only care about the prestige of being a big league owner. In other words, they don't care about the players OR the fans. And, yes, I count one of my own owners in there, too: one Marge Schott. The things she said about her players are unrepeatable as far as I'm concerned.DSUrocks07 wrote:Jeffery Loria is THE reason why pur attendance has been so bad over the years. Not exactly, Gil. Williams, Mantle and Gehrig won the MLB Triple Crown (led BOTH leagues in AVG., HR, and RBI). Cabrera won the AL Triple Crown; but he finished six points behind Buster Posey in average.Gil Dobie wrote:It's official, first Triple Crown winner since Yaz in 1967. Cabrera won the Triple Crown, exactly as Williams, Mantle and Gehrig. The triple crown in baseball means a player leads his league in all 3 catagories, not the entire Major Leagues. If you want to talk MLB triple crown with your sabr metrics friends, you are welcome to start another thread.

Not exactly as Williams, Mantle and Gehrig. The MLB Triple Crown has only been done five times, and each time it has been done by one of the truly elite all-time players: Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, and Mickey Mantle.Gil Dobie wrote:JoltinJoe wrote:

Let's not overstate the comparison. The difference is comparable to a perfect game and a no-hitter. All perfect games are no hitters; but not all no hitters are perfect games. What Mantle, Williams and Gehrig did is measurably more impressive than what Cabrera did.

As I stated prior, this thread is not about the inter-league triple crown and you are welcome to start a thread with your sabr metric buddies. We can discuss the No-hitter-perfect game analagy on that thread.JoltinJoe wrote:Not exactly as Williams, Mantle and Gehrig. Triple Crown winners, Cabrera is the first infielder to win the Triple Crown since Gehrig. Can you imagine the clamouring if a DH had won the Triple Crown.
