Zero Tolerance Policies = Zero Common-Sense Policies
Re: Zero Tolerance Policies = Zero Common-Sense Policies
Just learned I'm subbing for a 1st grade class on Friday. Me! Taking care of 20-30 six-year olds!
Re: Zero Tolerance Policies = Zero Common-Sense Policies
Yes mom. The substitute teacher told us that, God willing, the United States of America will go the way of the Soviet Union and the rest of the great Satan infidel nations. And then we were very hungry because he kept telling us about the Allahu Snackbar. Then he finally took us to the cafeteria for lunch.

Re: Zero Tolerance Policies = Zero Common-Sense Policies
The problem is that I talk to kids like I talk to adults, as in I end up being blunt. For example, ODU had an open house last Spring where young kids from around the area come in and learn about STEM. When I asked a young girl, maybe 7 or 8, what she wanted to do when she grew up, she said "actress." My response? "Don't do that 'cause 99% of actors fail. You might get lucky, but you'll probably end up waiting tables for a really long time." I did make the teacher laugh, but the girl was really upset afterwards. The last time my young cousin drew me, I told her it was bad, but if she kept trying she'll get much better (I was trying to teach her that practice makes perfect). Instead, I made her cry. It's that type of stuff I'm worried about.

Now Pwns..we all know what Mr. Infinity wanted to be at that age. You don't have to play Infidel's Advocate.Pwns wrote:You didn't want to be an astronaut or a professional athlete when you were that age, Trip?

Definitely! When I first start dealing with children, I'm consciously trying to remind myself that they're young. As soon as I get more comfortable though, it's like I end up forgetting their age. I'm just one of those people who's really awkward, even nervous, around kids; I'm glad that Flaggy's child only said hello to me.Pwns wrote:You didn't want to be an astronaut or a professional athlete when you were that age, Trip?

As God (aka. you) as my witness, I will do all in my power to stop that. The next time I see Flaggy, I'll make sure to buy his son actual beer. That's not illegal...or creepy, right? Teaching your child to become a BL snob is borderline child abuse; I'm convinced the courts would find me a hero.grizzaholic wrote:Hopefully, with your guidance, Flaggy's child will not grow up to be a BL snob like his father or, worse, AZ.∞∞∞ wrote: Definitely! We teach tolerance and acceptance in American schools, but those are not allowed

It turned out much better than I thought. There was an assistant teacher there doing her practicum so she ended up doing most of the work. I basically ended up being the assistant to the assistant...handing out papers and other supplies, helping them with basic math/writing, lining them up, supervising during recess and lunch, making sure they got on the right bus, etc. The TA was actually younger than me and easy on the eyes.

Hope this is a hoax, but sadly in today's climate you can't be sure.A discussion among students at Oberlin High School in Oberlin, La., about a mathematical symbol led to a police investigation and a search of one of the student’s homes, according to the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On the afternoon of Feb. 20, detectives investigated a report of terroristic threats at the school, where they learned that a student had been completing a math problem that required drawing the square-root sign.
Students in the group began commenting that the symbol, which represents a number that when multiplied by itself equals another number, looked like a gun.
