Our new turf is going in and look significantly better than our old turf.

Best part is, it's completely free. The company we got it from isn't charging a dime.

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
The best thing you can do at JMU is to get those stands closer to the sidelines. It's crazy how far away they are; did there used to be a track where all that concrete is? It gives very poor viewing angles low and higher is too far away. Close is the secret to the atmosphere at Montana.

yeah, the track used to run around the entire field, it was there when I was a freshman then they put in North end zone stands and the Plecker Athletic Center in the south end zone which left just two sides of the track which they either tore up or covered ( I don't know which). Anyway, the new plans call for moving the stands 40 ft closer to the field, I'm real happy about that. You can see the difference in the schematics when you compare how close the new west side stands are to the field to the east side. No mercy for the visiting team anymore

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
It DOES make a big difference bc the Montana & MSU fans know your name and shit man! They will be callin your name and saying shit like "[your name here] you havent caught a TD pass in 2 games!" for example and throwing skittles and M&M's at u. it doesnt hurt but it's annoying bc it bounces off the helmet and ****rings**** in your ears for a sec.kemajic wrote:You will be amazed at the difference that will make.
None of this would happen if there was a track seperating the field from the stands.
Ill tell you the worst school to play bc the fans just want to make your life a living fvcking hell!! Nichols State

I would agree... too much FBS competition in CA... plenty of FCS caliber guys in CA only 2 FCS teams... (and NAU and Portland St. taking a lot of guys)Willie wrote:It'd be a big mistake if they do.

Add Furman to the list.
Updates to field house and press/luxury boxes. Adding 10-12 luxury boxes. Haven't found any pics yet.

Coastal is supposed to be eliminating the "Hill" and creating a field house in it's place. I've seen photo's and will upload when/if I find them.

This is a preliminary rendering of the new Athletic complex planned for the north end of the football stadium. Not sure when the construction is due to start .

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
Yeah it is. It's going to be a work in progress, but it appears we'll be making a push for I-A and to do so, we needed upgraded locker rooms, coaches' offices, etc. So, I think they went with that building to compensate for that.dbackjon wrote:Looks very uh, ONE-sided...
On goasu.com, there is a "naming opporunity" for the "north endzone stands," which don't exist, that's where our field house is. My assumption, with little bits of information I've been privy to, is that the next step could be to put stands on the north end connecting east and west and leaving the grassy knoll at the south end.
The only downside is that would block the view of Howard's Knob and Rich Mountain, that adds to the atmosphere in the stadium. I personally would prefer to see them leave the grass knoll and build connecting stands above the hill where the current scoreboard is. Unfortunately, I don't have enough pull (money) to make my opinions [truly] heard.

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
Well here is the plan for Sac State:
http://www.spanossportscomplex.com/home.htm
The Broad Field House has been completed and is located in the south endzone, replacing the highly missed beer garden. (CA and its hippies banned all alcohol sales on all state university on-campus events
I attribute this to the low attendance numbers, although that can't be proven.)
The recreation center is currently under construction. I'm think it's a great idea, my issue is that it takes away any future plans (if there were any) for adding seats in the north endzone of the football stadium to make a "horseshoe" type stadium. I brought this up on the Sac State athletics blog page (sacbuzz.com) but no one seems to be concerned about the lost space. My opinion is that its just poor planning.
Currently there is/was fundraising for the arena. Not sure on the progress of this project. The arena is the most vital, in my opinion, as the basketball program is on life support and I feel that new facilities is the only hope the program has to have some winning seasons.
Finally, the stadium is on the list but I have heard nothing about their plans to update/improve/rebuild it. I know we hosted the 2000 and 2004 track and field Olympic trials and there is a desire to upgrade the stadium to try and draw it to Sac again.
Also I would like to note that the new uc davis stadium does not seat 20-30k. It seats just under 11k, however there is plenty of room to expand.

If a sell out crowd of 10,317 people fill the new aggie stadium, where does the remaing 20k people sit? Imaginary bleachers under the scoreboard?

SIU
Salukiway is under way at SIU with a new football stadium being built to replace 70 year old McAndrew Stadium. It is supposed to in operation by 2010. Major renovations are planned for the Arena (home of the basketball programs).

I have a problem with the huge opening on the east side stands. They couldn't build them some other way? It just seems unfinished and odd.dbackjon wrote:Looks very uh, ONE-sided...

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
It looks like they tried to purposly leave an opening for people to stand and watch if they wanted to, similar to the 10ft under the EWU pressbox, but APP st designed it wrong with the big pilars too far in front so it looks awkward. AND they should have put "APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY" or something like that on the face of the pressboxdgreco wrote:I have a problem with the huge opening on the east side stands.
