Does he have Michael Jackson's Dr? Might be a good candidate for the Death Pool next year, if he makes it to next year.andy7171 wrote:Drink himself to death? Prescribe his way to death? Fun for a week or month or to. Then what?

Look, we know you don't like the darkie golfer. It's nearly impossible to compare the competition both faced. But what is indisputable is that Nicklaus faced FAR fewer international players. Whether they didn't exist back in the day, weren't as good, didn't travel, weren't invited... whatever. The players today face the best of the world in the majors. In 1961, the Masters featured 73 Americans in an 88 player field. This year it was 40 of 89.AZGrizFan wrote:BSCAA Flagship wrote: Jack didn't have the competition that Tiger had.

And there's more.
Jack had a few really good peers that he had to face who were maybe more consistent than many of today (Mickelson, who I hate is very comparable to Watson or Player and better than everyone else on your list Palmer notwithstanding), but it dropped off substantially after 4-5 players (a few of the ones you name above don't belong on that list).
Nicklaus is still #1, but it's not by as much as you guys insist.

In his last major victory, a 46 year old Nicklaus beat out a few internationals on the last day, Norman, Langer, Price, Nakajima, Lyle and Ballesteros. If you look at total PGA performance, Tiger has a slight edge, if you look at overall Major performance, Jack by a mile. Jack did win 3 British Opens too, against some darn good international players. Between 1934 and 1961, USA players won 2 Opens, Sam Snead and Ben Hogan.89Hen wrote:Look, we know you don't like the darkie golfer. It's nearly impossible to compare the competition both faced. Probably play lots of Call of Duty and play Navy Seal. That dude loves working out with Navy Seals.andy7171 wrote:Pretty sure Elin is safe. Tiger has plenty of money for 5 generation. Problem is what does he go in his mansion alone until it over. Sad.

I'm glad you brought up the '86 Masters (my favorite memory of professional golf growing up). Did you know there were only 12 foreign born players in the field? The fact that you can rattle off half of them should tell you just how strong the foreign born players are and exactly why it's become so much more difficult to win major in the last 20-30 years. Just look at the Ryder Cup if you want confirmation of that. The US dominated when it was US vs GB, heck even the first few years when they added the rest of Europe to the other side. But the US is now 5-11 in the last 16 cups. That alone speaks volumes.Gil Dobie wrote:In his last major victory, a 46 year old Nicklaus beat out a few internationals on the last day, Norman, Langer, Price, Nakajima, Lyle and Ballesteros. BTW, I'm not sure I agree with this, but here's another interesting take on this subject...
Colin Montgomery wrote:“What might Woods have done had the game never moved off the balata ball and the wooden wood? Many golf fans would say he would have won less. I believe he would have won far more. He has the 14 majors. Without the equipment changes, I believe he’d have well into his 20s now. Because now everybody has clubs where they can do what he could do.
“Two others lost out hugely to technology. Greg Norman was one. He was the best driver of the ball with the wooden club ever. He lost out when drivers went to metal and suddenly we could do what he did. He lost his asset. And the other was Seve. When Ping developed its L-wedge, with box grooves, we could suddenly do what Seve could do with a 52° club. He lost his asset too. Tiger had all that, in spades. And then we were given equipment that allowed us to do what he could do.”

The one's I rattled off, were the ones he passed on the leader board the final day.89Hen wrote:I'm glad you brought up the '86 Masters (my favorite memory of professional golf growing up). If Tiger had the internal drive that Jack had, who's knows what could have happened. Too much hookers and blow. Partying must be a pro golfers past-time of the American's since Jack's era. One of the local pros here invited a couple of his pro buddies to hang out with him and some local women friends one night. One of the golfers has a multiple majors on his resume. The women left early and told him to never invite his golf buddies again. The guy with the Majors was puking his guts out all night.

Wasn't drinking, just on prescription meds. That being said, he still shouldn't have been on the road.

On the Masters, yes, I know those are the ones he passed on the leaderboard, that was my point. Of the 11 foreign players (Player was one of the 12 but really in ceremonial form) six were in contention going into the final round. The top foreign players were/are better that a the regular US players who were just filling spots. That was my point.
