Trump Campaign Goes Full Racist

Ok, start a thread about it. I know it's a common tactic to change the topic or project the argument on something else, but this one is about Trump's racism. I know some will still support him despite it though.

I'm not a Trump supporter or apologist and I've already stated that I think he's is an arrogant sociopath more than he's a racist. I try to give him credit for what I think is good and call him out on what isn't.

Isn't it a little hypocritical to call out the other side for supporting someone you think is a racist but ignoring those on your side who are racist or bigoted?

I don't see racism in Trumps words or actions
I think he genuinely feels that everybody is beneath him regardless of race color or whatever

The one exception is his love affair with Dictators
He loves Dictators and the more brutal and murderous the more he loves them

Other that that exception he feels like we're all beneath him equally

True. The degree varies by individual and it takes effort to overcome that nature.

Racism is a two way street and there are those on the left who are racist/bigoted too. MJ is just as unashamedly bigoted about old white men as others are about people of color.

Rather than focusing on one aspect of racism/bigotry, let's condemn them all.

The problem with just blanketly calling Trump, or anyone, racist, is that it's a means to an end, that end being the elimination of debate and talking about that person or what that person is doing in the context of their job. Basically, "he's a racist, everyone who supports him is therefore racist by association, so nothing they say or do is of any value". It's a dead-end debate in that nothing gets debated. It's basically just one more example of the damage of the polarizing, all or nothing attitude of politics and political discussion in this country.

For me, I think Trump's abhorrent, I think he's reckless, and I would never vote for him. With that said, I'm not entirely opposed to his use of tariffs and brinkmanship with the Chinese regarding trade. I'm not opposed to being clear about our immigration laws, whatever we decide on, and enforcing them. Is he racist? He does racist things, but in the end it doesn't foreclose my ability to be in favor of or opposed to things he does. We need to stop being so absolutist to things that we close off the ability to discuss anything else.

If we really wanted a system consistent with the idea that the country belongs to people of every zip code, we would not have the Electoral College system. We would not have a system whereby the vote of a person with a California zip code has less weight than the vote of a person with a Wyoming zip code. So on and so forth.

There really is no legitimate defense of the Electoral College system as it exists today.

I've seen arguments like that many times. It's a bunch of crap. I'll just focus on the "swing state" argument. The woman appears to think that the fact that swing states change makes a difference. It does not. The bottom line is that the Electoral College causes candidates to focus on States identified as being in play while paying very little attention to States that are not in play.

Also, I notice she didn't mention that the original idea of the Electoral College is that voters of each State would vote for educated people who would then go choose a President. It wasn't about voters in a State voting for a candidate then having the Electors vote for that candidate.

It's adorable that you think getting rid of the electoral college would put an end to uneven campaign spending. Without the electoral college it will just mean candidates will be campaigning mostly in purple cities like Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville, and every large city in Texas other than Austin. The term "swing city" would be used and campaign stops in medium-sized and small towns in Ohio and Pennsylvania would end.

Amen! 40 million Americans (California) have had their vote neutered by the Electoral College while we have places like North & South Dakota (less than 2 million Americans) running the show.
