Was reading an ESPN article that stated that this is the first decade since 1910 that the Yankees have not made it to a World Series sometime in that decade.

Nothing wrong with that, another one or two would be great. I would like them to return to the great Horace Clarke/Roy White era.

This is jumping the gun, since a decade runs from the '01 year through the 10th year. This decade runs from 2011 through 2020.

Ah yes. Thurman was just coming on the scene. Bobby Murcer was patrolling center field. Fritz Peterson and Mel Stottlemyre in the starting rotation. Celerino Sanchez was at third. The Stick at shortstop.
They sucked then, but never lost a playoff game. 8-)

I don't know about that. Seems you would normally start at 0.

The 1980's are 1980-89 and so on. Cripes, you can't even let all the Yankee haters (99% of the free world) have this one stat?

Well, there was no year 0, so that's why centuries are pegged at starting in the 01 year and ending in the 00 year at the end. Milleniums too, so 2001 was the first year of the new millennium. With that said, when people refer to the '90's or some other decade, they normally mean just that, any year that had "ninety" in the name. So yes, the Yankees didn't make the WS in any year of the past decade. Sweet.

There was no year 0.

So the first decade of the Common Era would have been 1 C.E. through 10 C.E.

Which means this decade runs from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2020.

Ok, since you are so triggered by factual accuracy, you can have your way because you are a very special boy and you deserve it. And perhaps this won't be the first decade ever that the Nationals earn something more than a Participation Trophy. Stay tuned.

Not bad for only being around one and a half decades... or even less if we use your "factual" method that nobody else uses. ;)

Well, regardless of them winning the WS, winning a pennant is real, even going back to the days of no divisions. I'm no Nats fan, but a pennant is a pretty decent accomplishment.

Actually, Pope Pius I in conjunction with Marcus Aurelius co-wrote a pronouncement titled the Decennium Normalem which declared that the first decade only consisted of nine years so that the following decades would make more sense.

Nationals Franchise actually started in 1968 with the Montreal Expos, and this is first pennant for the franchise.

Why would Marcus Aurelius have anything to do with a Christian Pope when the Roman Empire was still officially anti-Christian? Why would Rome date anything back to the birth of a man central to a religion they didn't even deem to be legal?

On the bright side, you did at least name a pope who was a contemporary of Marcus Aurelius and you did come up with a pretty good sounding Latin pronouncement. :thumb:

Mine would have to be the Big Red Machine. Only baseball team I could probably still name all the starting position players, and I was a Phillies fan growing up.
