Re: 2020 Football Signing Class Early & Late Period
Damn I missed this thread. I’ll copy & paste I’ll delete the other one.
Usually every season there's been a recruiting/signing class thread started by signing day (Dec or Feb). No one has posted one yet, so here goes. A week+ late (or 2 months since the Dec signing date).
Hero's class rankings. 4th year they've done it. On the one hand, about as worthless as preseason polls,. They don't use recruit services (Rivals, 247, etc) stars, but listed offers. 2 problems with their system:
-Kid's listed offers aren't always accurate.
-Larger classes have an advantage over smaller ones.
On the other hand, give's something to talk about in the 2+ month dead period between the NC game and Spring Ball, and if you see the same teams at/near the top every season (NDSU, JMU, etc) it probably is a good indicator they are getting the Jimmys and Joes.

https://herosports.com/fcs/football-202 ... kings-ajaj*Only high school recruits are taken into account. Transfers are separate and will be evaluated much later this spring.
*The system is based on school offers, NOT 247Sports or Rivals. Every level of D-1 (P5, G5, FCS) has a particular tiered point total. This method is meant to be reactive (to how coveted he was), not predictive (of what will happen next).
*When it comes to team rankings, it's the value of all of its Dec. signees and Feb. signees' point totals combined. Every kid counts.
*I respect PWOs -- preferred walk-ons. They get credit too. The FCS is the perfect level for walk-ons. They matter to these schools.
LAST NOTE: The Ivy League - While I've included the Ivy recruits in the individual Top 300 this year, I didn't include them this year in the team rank because the criteria would be skewed. If I'd included them, for instance, Princeton would have been No. 1 below by a mile and several others would easily be in the Top 10. The problem is, Princeton has more than 35 incoming freshman and with 22 recruits inside the Top 500 of the FCS, it's just unbalanced since many FCS scholarship programs sign only 15 to 18 players in a year. So we're going to rank the Ivy League against the Ivy League and will release that soon.

Re: 2020 Football Signing Class Early & Late Period
JMU DT coach left to ODU. JMU's top 2 DT targets, who had developed a relationship with the DT coach, committed to ODU. That appears to be the only failure with this class. Won't hurt this year, as the top 4 DTs all return, but with the 2 starters will be seniors, so could lean to taking transfer or 2 in 2021.
JMU's 16 HS recruits (doesn't include PWOs, but only guys who signed LOI's):
Name Yr. Pos. Ht. Wt. Hometown High School (Previous)
Kyle Adams Fr. QB 6-1 175 West Lafayette, Ind. West Lafayette
Payne Bauer Fr. LB 6-2 235 Stephens City, Va. Sherando
Kaelon Black Fr. RB 5-10 195 Virginia Beach, Va. Salem
Xavier Cokley Fr. DB 6-0 185 Baltimore, Md. Franklin
Mikail Kamara Fr. DL 6-1 235 Ashburn, Va. Stone Bridge
Sammy Malignaggi Fr. DB 5-10 180 Nashua, N.H. Buckingham, Browne & Nichols [MA]
Kelly Mitchell Fr. TE 6-3 230 Roanoke, Va. Hidden Valley
Seth Naotala Fr. LB 6-0 230 Newport News, Va. Woodside
Tyler Negron Fr. DL 6-3 275 Bristow, Va. Patriot
Cole Potts Fr. OL 6-3 300 Johnstown, Ohio St. Francis DeSales
Khurram Simpson Fr. DL 6-2 240 West Orange, N.J. Immaculate Conception (Mater Dei Prep)
Chase Soper Fr. ATH 6-0 205 Alexandria, Va. Hayfield

Notable Transfers:
-Gr WR Scott Bracy (6’2”/210) (Duke). Started last season for Duke (21 receptions, 270 yds, 2 TDs). Coming out of HS consensus 4 star & Rivals rated as Dukes top recruit ever, (Offers from a boatload of P5s, Clemson, Ohio St, Michigan, etc). Redshirted & played last 3 seasons, started last year, but career didn’t meet the hype.

-rSo WR Kris Thornton (5’8”/170) (VMI). Had to sit out 2019 due to transfer rules. So-Con fans should remember the name well- had over 1,000 yds receiving in 2018. JMU now has 3 VMI transfers- an OL from last year who sat out last season, and an LB who will have to sit out next season.
-rJr OC Stanley Hubbard (6’4”/300) (UConn) 2 deep last 2 seasons. Started last game vs Temple. Was slated to start at center next season for UConn.
-rSo Safety Jo Jo Norwodd (6’0”/195) (UMASS transfer). Originally committed to Tennessee. Was touted by 247 as the 2nd highest rated UMass recruit ever. Played as a true. Last yr after starting the 1st 4 games at safety, & 2nd on the team in tackles, quit the team. UMASS HC cited homesickness. Since only played 1st 4 games was able to count last season as a redshirt.

-rSo DE Abi N-Okonji (6’3”/250) (Minnesota). 3 star recruit out of HS in Georgia. Redshirted 2018, limited PT last season. Former Maine HC now a Minnesota assistant. JMU DC former Maine DC. That connection is how probably how got the kid.

Re: 2020 Football Signing Class Early & Late Period
Not really. 4 years they’ve done it, they’ve only had UD rated high for Rocco’s 1st 2 full recruiting classes
2017: 24 (21 excluding Ivies)(Rocco late hire)
2018: 23 (18 excluding Ivies)(Rocc's 1st full class)
2019: 9 (6 excluding Ivies) (Rocco’s 1st full class)
2020: 3
Looks like Rocco has stepped UD’s recruiting up from Brock, but only has 3 full classes. Gill’s right. It could be “see you in the semis”, maybe 2022..
EXCLUDING the Ivies they’ve had
NDSU:
2017: 2
2018: 2
2019: 3
2020: 4
JMU:
2017: 1
2018: 3
2019: 5 (outside coaching change)
2020: 1
VU (could be a contender next season).
2017: 7
2018: 11
2019: 1
2020: 6
Had Montana St with the top non Ivy class 2018..

Yeah it's all horse shit. UD top 25 all four years, no playoff wins. Thanks for helping me prove my point.

2020 Football Signing Class Early & Late Period
I never bother with these recruiting class ratings
We sign a couple studs every year
And then they have girlfriend problems with the gal at clempson or Voorhees and transfer to Austin Peay after one year
The last time we had a solid recruiting class that all stayed (many for a 5th year) was the 87 class. They beat USC, Arkansas, Navy x2 and Army x2. Their 5th year we finished #1 in the regular season and only lost to the two teams that played in the championship: YSU and the Thundering Turds

Re: 2020 Football Signing Class Early & Late Period
I goofed- I was off by a year with Rocco. I shoul have wrote
2017: 24 (21 excluding Ivies)(Rocco late hire)
2018: 23 (18 excluding Ivies) (Rocco 1st full class)
2019: 9 (6 excluding Ivies)
2020: 3
So he's had 3 full classes, not 2. His 1st full one on paper wasn't rated that high, but his last 2 were.
Anyway, I see that UD hired former JMU player & assistant, longtime VT assistant Bryan Stinespring. Your OL just got better..
