It was a low-security federal prison...for doctors, lawyers, businessmen, etc. I went once and it was just a large open room with a bunch of bunk beds, dining area, community bathroom, and outside space. Visitors could roam the entire prison. Prisoners even had vending machines and limited internet access.

My parents were always clear: once you found a full-time job, you're moving out. It took me a year to find a job after college and they made my pay rent during that time. Same with my sister. Hell when her boyfriend went to prison, she wanted to move back in because she was feeling down. They said no.

They've always been about promoting independence.
That should be, "Once you graduate college, you're moving out." You've got kids now a days who will take months or years to find a full time job...light a fire under their ass, and they'll find a full time job much quicker..or full time hours, until they do..

We actually played last week and 89Jr didn't talk to me for a day afterward... until we played Risk the next night and I once again crushed his psyche and he was silent for another day. 8-)

But Che Guevara art? Is it on the wall next to John Wayne Gacy clown pictures? Che was a war criminal. How many people did he have executed or sent to labor camps / gulags for Castro? There are much better left-wing revolutionaries to hold up as role models than Che.

I don't disagree but I think you missed the point of my questions. It isn't free-market capitalism but the government helping to pick the winners and losers that will most likely to lead to monopolies.

Yeah nobody ever asks why Cuba is nearly 65% black, but the Communist leadership there is practically all white or mestizo.

So you guys are now ok with people crossing the border illegally and declaring asylum?

Cool. Glad we had that entire argument over whether that was fine or not a while back.

He was held for two years while working through asylum...yes???

I’m cool with that...what I’m not good with is releasing asylum-seekers until their hearing, because too many just disappear...

So if we can agree on this part, are you OK with the kids being kept in jail while parents await asylum status???

You know at this point I think it does look like we're into a pattern where the GDP growth "bottom" has increased:

Image

I'm talking about the fact that if you look at 2012 through 2015 there are a number of instances in which quarterly GDP growth was <1%. The problem with attributing that to Trump is that the last time GDP growth was really low like that was the 4th quarter of 2015. If you look at that graph and try to peg a time when something may have changed you'd peg the beginning of 2016.

And of course I'm sure all of you have heard that economists think that the Trump tariffs thing was a factor in the second quarter GDP growth. The idea is that people rushed to get their goods shipped overseas before the tariff's took effect. I heard one estimate this morning that without that the GDP growth would've been 2.8%.

If that is basically true we may have a good situation here with respect to the future of the country. We may have a situation in which GDP growth drops significantly during the quarter immediately preceding the 2018 Congressional elections.

We'll see what happens.

That article is talking about annual economic growth. There was quarterly GDP growth as high as 5.2% during the Obama Administration. But annual economic growth never exceeded 2.9%. The last time annual GDP growth reached at least 4% was in 2000.

If it happens in 2018 it happens. But it hasn't happened yet.
