That was more along the lines of what I expected to see when Sam Houston started the playoffs. I expected that the offense that ran amuck in the Southland would find the going much tougher when it started running into good teams from the power conferences. I was very surprised to see it keep running amuck against Montana State and through the first half against Montana. But today it did get completely shut down. In fact without looking I'd bet that every team in the MVC had more offense against NDSU than Sam Houston had today.

A trivia note is that SHSU averaged 13 points and something along the lines of 250 yards per game in its two games against MVC competition. Don't see the box score for their total yards against NDSU but it's going to be somewhere around 200. And Western Illinois held them to 313.

Obviously they did a lot better than I thought they would in the tournament though. And their defense did an outstanding job today. I thought they'd get worn down if the game stayed close but they didn't. They got a lot of three and outs. Because of their effort the BearKats had a real shot to win that game. Catch that TD pass and do a little bit better job of avoiding turnovers and that would've been a white-knuckler.

But if you were going to say UNI, who didn't belong on the same field as Montana (48-10), who then lost to SHSU, then your argument is totally shot.

Both teams were deserving of being in the game. MVFC is not the SEC, those are coat tails you just can't ride.
