Yeah, **** me running. You have to endure three songs, and usually a military group oath of enlistment (because Dover AFB) before every race at Dover.

One year, it had to be 2000 or the spring race in 2001 (I'd never do it after 9/11), when they were about to start the oath, I yelled "DON'T DO IT!!!!" It got a nice laugh in my section.

I always did a humming mumble with an exaggerated Barbara Walters/Elmer Fudd speech impediment where I'd turn every L or R into a W sound through the whole pledge during school, because I knew that it would piss off my teachers and people like you. And there wasn't a damn thing they could do about it.

In summary, I think me and Trip (YIKES) and the Founding Fathers are all sort of on the same page: Keep church and state separate. Once you bring God into anything, you're not talking to everyone anymore. We have freedom of and from religion in this country.

Miracles do happen. A post I can agree with JSO with. Banning God Bless America and Kate Smith have nothing to do with a song about God. It's entirely because she song some songs back in the 1930's that would be intolerable today. No evidence that she was racist, she was just a singer like other singers of the day - her recording company gave her songs to sing and she sang them. Paul Robeson sang the same song she sang and I doubt people want to erase him from history. If people can show that she was a racist, at least that would make some sense (although we've gone on and on again how most historical figures in America prior to 1950's could be shown, relative to today's standards, of being racists simply by exhibiting common behavior of their times). Censorship run amok should always be pointed out. It's run amok here.

As a religion, Islam covers a lot more ground than the others - Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism and others are full of "law", but those laws govern personal behavior and activity.

What a lot of people do not understand about Islam is that it is not just a religion but also a system of government. Mohammed was a busy guy and he didn't just limit his rulebook to chastity for the ladies... it is also what makes it so dangerous when followed closely to the original - the inseparability of church and state are one of the foundational tenets of Islam.
