Also, there is 17% from 5th thru last. If Iowa is any resemblance of other states, that 17% (and maybe Carson's 9%) will decide the race.
Rubio will now become a major target and his voting record (actually his lack of voting) will be his demise.

Florida governor Jeb Bush received 5,165 votes in Iowa. His vote total constitutes 2.8 percent of the Republican turnout, placing him in sixth place in the Iowa caucus.

Re: 2016 Republican Primary
Apparently Cruz supporters were telling Carson supporters in several precincts that he was dropping out of the race and to vote for Cruz to not "waste" their vote...
Turns out that wasn't true.
Turns out that wasn't true.
Re: 2016 Republican Primary
I can see Trump and Cruz beating up on each other to the point that Rubio comes off as the lesser of the 3 evils. Winning Iowa is nice, but doesn't matter in the long run. Clinton lost Iowa and went on to serve two terms. Santorum won Iowa in 2012. We all know that Super Tuesday is the day that matters.BDKJMU wrote:Could have said tve same about Obama 8 years ago..CAA Flagship wrote:Iowa has proved to be "unlike" the rest of the states often enough to![]()

I think Sanders will take NH next week. I will be voting for Bernie in SC, just so that it's one more vote against Clinton.

I think Rubio might be a bigger threat to Trump than Cruz and wouldn't be surprised to see The Donalds sights trained more on him.Ibanez wrote:I can see Trump and Cruz beating up on each other to the point that Rubio comes off as the lesser of the 3 evils. It wasn't that he was 72, it was the five years of being beaten on the head daily as a POW.ASUG8 wrote:Where are all the folks who were screaming that a 72 year old McCain was too old for the presidency?

Re: 2016 Republican Primary
I don't think Trump finishing second in Iowa was much of a shock to anyone. Like another poster said, Iowa is weird and it's all about the networking in state. And in the end, Iowa, especially on the Republican side of things, rarely predicts the winner for the nomination. We'll know if Trump has a legit chance or not somewhat after New Hampshire, and for certain after March 1st's Super Tuesday. The idea that buffoonery can transfer into votes will be known for certain by then and not really much before.Ivytalk wrote:Trump's aura of inevitability had its cherry popped last night. I also think the public nature of the vote has an effect - especially to transfer votes from Trump to Cruz or Rubio.
People may not publically want to admit they support Trump, but would vote for him in a secret ballot.
Cruz has the advantage of church shaming - the pressure from fellow evangelicals to support him at the caucus.
