Just remember the old are dependent on the charity of the young.

With good health and luck, we all get there one day. You better hope that when today's young are in power, they aren't taking away your savings, your retirement accounts, your social security, your properties, etc.

Not that I could blame them. We borrowed against their future, it's only fair they collect the bill one day.

The lazy youth of today have been sucking at the teat of their parents for over a generation now. I can only imagine the temper tantrum after they suck the money dry.

If ever there was a time for the police to strike and make a point....

Of course that would be legitimately cruel to minority communities and all the chaos would be blamed on "waycism".

Oh man, you're getting me hard with all this talk of police strikes.

I can get on board a nation full of communities implementing mutual aid for defense.

Please do it. Please.

Who, me? I believe everyone should have a gun if they want as long as they pass sensible background checks.

If anything, it's clear who definitely shouldn't have guns: the police.

I infinitely trust my neighbors with community defense than some dumbass in a uniform who's less educated than a barber.

Well have fun ... because nobody’s getting rid of police departments

But the caliber of police recruits is going to continue to plummet

Whee!

I'm not really worried when the caliber is already at the basement, digging a trench, and laying flat in it.

Communities will implement mutual aid and better people will fill in the roles for peace officers. We just need to change the standards. Heck, I trust a reformed felon to sympathize with criminals and deescalate situations more than the current crop of law enforcement.

We're simply waking up to how much waste of taxpayer money police departments have become.

Your fact challenged willingness to brand all police that way reminds me of the same lack of logic on the far right

I guess populism is no vice when you are assured of your virtue

I'd love to see this grand experiment

But don't do it in places like Baltimore where the police have already essentially pulled back from minority neighborhoods. We already know what not having no police looks like there.

Do it somewhere like Omaha or Austin - it'll be great to see these community citizen arbitrators handle a meth-head driving a stolen bulldozer. Or dealing with an active shooter. Or a bank robbery, or a domestic dispute with mandatory arrest laws (that exist in every state).

I can't wait for that body cam footage

But back here in the real world, less than 1 in 10 people support this so what we're really doing is a thought exercise.

If you don’t have no police you must have some police.

We need cops. Just more better cops.

We’d need less cops with better income equality.

So the city gave way to the county. I thought the idea was to have policing on a more local level. :suspicious:

But it seems to be working.

In this area, if we could eliminate city cops and go 100% county sheriffs I’d be all for it. Several towns have already done it.

Our local sheriff supported three little towns where I grew up. Our population was only 150 though.

I've complained about the numerous PD's of all the small towns of the STL suburbs for a while. They are overlapped by the County force that has far more resources. Seems like a waste of $$.

But in the name of "Community Policing" (and I have no idea what that really means), wouldn't it be better to be more localized?

Why is the length of commute important? If I was a cop especially with a family, I’m not sure I’d want to live close to where I work.

Good explanation by the great German Youtube channel Kurzgesagt on something that's been discussed some here: how Solar storms could wipe out power grids.

It's not about commute. It's about ingredients. Buy local.
