Being a "progressive" is all about consolidating power and wealth.
The epitome of "progressivism" , Woodrow Wilson, dove head first into WWI after campaigning to stay out of it.
Obama explained his reasons for the unholy alliances with "Big Pharma" and those dirty evil health insurance companies....its a step by step process. We couldn't just go from a semi private system to a single payer system overnight. Believe me, and I think you know this, his ultimate goal is socialized, government run, single payer health care.

Obama paid lip service to single payer and dumped it as fast as he could because he's a corporatist and that's what you have to be to get re-elected. That's why he was an environmentalist during the primaries then pivoted toward big oil in the general.

You seem to be under the false assumption that "progressivism" is this wonderful peace loving magic do-good we love, want to help, and take care of everybody philosophy. Wilson was one of the so-call fathers of "progressivism", but was an opportunistic, vile, racist, disgusting POS.

Obama isn't killing the pharmaceuticals or the health insurance companies. They voluntarily put their heads under the guillotine. Sorry, I can't believe you are naive enough to think that he is a sell out when if given the chance, he would implement a single payer system in a nanosecond if he was given the opportunity. You do know he did extreme harm to his presidency just to get that abortion of a health care bill passed. Him publicly supporting a single payer system at that time would have doomed his presidency for good.

Progressivism is just like any other "ism". It has it's good points and it's unintended consequences. If truth be told, I don't believe very strongly in any "ism" other than cynicism. But I do get a kick out of how "progressive" has recently become a pejorative term used by the right along with the typical revisions of history to justify their selfishness.

The interesting part is whether the Democrats were simply re-branding themselves after a decade of Rush co-opting the term liberal, or whether there is truly a progressive movement afoot as a backlash to Democratic Party corporatism.

In any event, I wouldn't worry too much Baldy. Power is firmly entrenched, and thanks to Citizens United, without broad sweeping changes to campaign finance or serious societal turbulence, I'd guess any legitimate populist reform efforts, whether from progressives or tea baggers, will be squashed like a bug.

Sure selfishness, greed, self interest whatever you'd like to call it can be a motivating force. But it can also be a destructive force. Societies have crumbled under the weight of their own greed.
