Re: Volleyball
UNI's Ellie Blankenship is one of the finalists for Lowes' Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes seniors for their accomplishments in the Classroom (academics), in Competition (athletics), in the Community (volunteer work and service), and for their Character.
Part of the selection process is based on fan voting, where each person (or computer, really) can vote once per day at http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/volleyball_2010/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Ellie is the only finalist from a school which participates in FCS football.

Re: Volleyball
Hope Ellie gets it. Meantime - PSU beat Northern Colorado last night 3-2. UNC is our only serious competition in the Big Sky this year. After beating Northern Arizona tonight 3-0 we're tied for first place with UNC at 7-1. Looks like it will come down to our match against UNC at their home base.

Western Kentucky beats FIU in Miami (3 - 2) and it is the first time that WKU has swept the regular season series with FIU since 2004! WKU is now 19 - 5 (8 - 1 in Sun Belt). This game was the final of 5 straight road games for Western as they were 4 - 1 in that stretch with the loss to Middle Tennessee. WKU now faces #21 Cincinnati in Bowling Green Tuesday night at 7PM. Including the Cincinnati game, WKU has 6 of their last 8 games at home.
I have 176 reasons to be happy.

Kudos to WKU volleyball head coach Hudson for taking action and stopping the bus after the driver keeled over while the team was going down the interstate.wkuhillhound wrote:Western Kentucky beats FIU in Miami (3 - 2) and it is the first time that WKU has swept the regular season series with FIU since 2004! Haven't really been keeping up...too many football woes but, the lady Cats are now 13-9, 6-2, with 8 conference matches left. Second in the west division...one game behind UTSA. UCA is running away with the overall conference @ 19-6, 9-0. Both of our conference losses are to teams we should never have lost to.

Cheers for WKU. And commirations, Catmom, on the football. At 6-2, however, TXST could still win out. Do you have a tournament at the end to decide who goes to the NCAA?

Yes, we have a tournament. Seems when we win conference, we lose the tourny or we do not take conference but win the tourny. It's a bit frustrating at times.frinq wrote:Cheers for WKU. And it doesn't matter, we'll have to go through UT anyway.

Thanks! My son asked if we were going to the VB game on Saturday after the football game. I think he enjoys them more than the FB games.clenz wrote:Yep. How old is he, and does he like to sit close to the court? That very well could be, depending his ageHI54UNI wrote:Thanks! No, seriously though, the volleyball games are a lot of fun

I enjoy ALL aspects of volleyball.
Re: Volleyball
In any case, whether you are a fan of the sport, a fan of the scenery, or a fan of UNI,
the volleyball matches are a fun time. I encourage everyone to check it out (especially since you get in free with a football ticket)

He says he likes it because it is more interesting and has more action than football. Plus the atmosphere at the UNI VB games is a lot of fun.

Re: Volleyball
Western Kentucky gets a 3 - 0 win over Louisiana-Lafayette to reach 20 wins for the 11th straight season and 12 of the last 13!! (20 - 6) (9 - 1 Sun Belt) had a hitting percentage of .420 (highest of the season) and held Louisiana-Lafayette to -.099 hitting percentage. Next game is this afternoon against Louisiana-Monroe, going for win #21!

Re: Volleyball
So how are WK and UNI doing? PSU with 4 matches to go likely is going to win or lose the conference depending on how it does against Northern Colorado next week. Alas, that's at UNC, and they're very good. We may have to settle for 2nd place and no. 2 seed at the tournament.
Hey, Catmom, is TXST still in the mix?

Re: Volleyball
UNI is still undefeated in conference (13-0 this season), and 22-2 overall (losses to #12 Iowa State and #17 Dayton). Panthers currently ranked #13 in the AVCA coaches poll, and #5 in RPI. They hold a 3-game lead over the second-place teams in the MVC. They still face their toughest road trip (at Wichita State and Missouri State) during the final weekend of the season, but they're still quite likely to hold onto the #1 seed for the MVC tournament (which they are hosting this year).
The question is whether they can keep their ranking up and possibly land a seed or possibly being able to host the first weekend of the NCAA tourney.

Re: Volleyball
The Big Sky Conference was wrapped up this evening by Portland State; they took out Sac State 3-1. The BSC tournament will be next week, with PSU seeded #1 and Northern Colorado #2. The winner goes to the NCAAs, and at this point PSU has the edge, although UNC is very good.
I assume that UNI has wrapped up its conference too?

UNI (27-2, 17-0 MVC) clinched the regular season MVC championship (and first seed in the conference tourney) last weekend, and won at Wichita State last night. They finish up the regular season tonight at Missouri State.frinq wrote:I assume that UNI has wrapped up its conference too?
The MVC conference tournament takes place this Thursday-Saturday in Cedar Falls.
(UNI has the #1 seed locked up; Wichita State, Creighton, Missouri State, Drake, and Illinois State will also participate in the tourney, with their seeds being determined by tonight's matches)

Western Kentucky Lady Toppers (27 - 7) is the 2nd seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. They swept Louisiana-Lafayette in the 1st round and then swept Florida International in the semifinals.
Western Kentucky will play Middle Tennessee for the Sun Belt Championship. This is the 7th time in the last 9 years that WKU has made it to the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference. Beat them Raiders tonight!!!

Re: Volleyball
The UNI Panthers win their second straight MVC tourney championship, after completing their second straight undefeated conference season. That brings their conference win streak to 40 matches (18-0 and 18-0 in the past 2 regular seasons, 2-0 and 2-0 in the past two conference tournaments).
UNI is a lock for one of the 16 seeds awarded in the 64-team NCAA tournament, and stands a good chance of hosting matches the first weekend. Also from the MVC, Wichita State will most likely get an at-large bid, along with possibly Creighton and/or Missouri State.
Brackets get announced tommorrow (Sun. 11/28) sometime between 2 and 2:30 p.m. (central time), on ESPNnews.
