I would think that it would be standard procedure in that situation (long FG's as time expires for the half/game).JohnStOnge wrote:BTW, notice how we come in on the end of a discussion in that first video with the Auburn radio call. They were talking about Davis being back in the end zone. And one said something about "Well I guess if this thing comes up short he can field it and run it out."
A coach made a decision to put that guy back there for that contingency. Kudos coach Malzahn. Or maybe it's kudos to whoever is in charge of special teams for Auburn.
If it wasn't standard procedure before, I'm sure it will be now. haha.
I know there have been games at the FCS level where the defending team has put a player in the endzone on long FG attempts (though I can't remember of the top of my head any actual returns).
Does anyone know, is there a "goaltending" rule on FGs? if the kick is just above the crossbar (but not across it yet), can a defender jump up and swat at it from the endzone?

I THINK that's legal, Jay, but the one who will know for sure is clenzy. A few teams over time have set aside people for that task, but the situation comes up so rarely that they don't seem to last long on rosters. Sort of like the Oakland Athletics' "designated runner" of the mid-'70s, who only lasted a couple of seasons at best.
These things go in cycles. For decades, nobody bothered going for huge returns, and now the last five to ten years, they're all the rage. That'll probably go away soon, and then come back later....

Holy shit, this! And all the blatantly faked ones are in the finals. That show is rigged beyond belief. Funny, but rigged.93henfan wrote:I'm frequently skeptical of homemade video in general. So, for BDKJMU and others that wanted to jump on Stanford beating Oregon of evidence that "old school smashmouth" always beats finesse....
Does this game now prove that finesse is superior to old school smashmouth?

Auburn plays a pretty hard-nosed, run heavy kind of offense...Skjellyfetti wrote:So, for BDKJMU and others that wanted to jump on Stanford beating Oregon of evidence that "old school smashmouth" always beats finesse....

Re: Auburn/Alabama
They're run heavy, but their offense is far, far more similar to Urban Meyer's, Rich Rodriguez's, Chip Kelley's, etc. run first spread offenses (what old fogies like BDK and JSO think of as finesse) than a hard-nosed, old school smashmouth run heavy kind of offense like Alabama's or Stanford's.Grizalltheway wrote: Auburn plays a pretty hard-nosed, run heavy kind of offense...

Where's that CitGrad now that OSU is gonna be in the championship after Saturday?

But honestly, I do hope OSU makes it. It'll be fun watching them get BTFO by FSU.
Re: Auburn/Alabama
Michigan State blows. They're nowhere near capable of keeping up in scoring. They have no offense, period. Ohio State's defense has sucked all year and is still 12-0.

Hm. Ok.
And, they are far and away the best team Ohio State has played this year. So, what does that say?

Don't recall saying te Big Ten was the best conference or anything. Fact is OSU is 12-0 and if/when they win Saturday it's the chipper for them. Then we'll see who is the best.

Re: Auburn/Alabama
Well as your image shows, they're 4th in scoring defense at 11 ppg. In a neutral venue I think that definitely gives them a shot to pull it off.Willie wrote:Michigan State blows. Re: Auburn/Alabama
They haven't played anyone with anything resembling Ohio State's offense. Hyde will run all over them. And when he's done, Miller will. In the middle of all that, Miller will throw 2+ TDs

Re: Auburn/Alabama
Devin Hester's field goal return was not game ending/winning. Watch the video....there is over 11 minutes left in the game when the return happens and Chicago was up 24-20 at the time of the return, which put them up 31-20. So...again with Hester you have no idea what you are talking aboutdal4018 wrote:Yes they were winning plays ask Devin Hester and Antonio Cromartie!!!clenz wrote: were any of those game winning plays?

Cromartie happened at half-time of a Viking/Charger game in Novermber of 2007. I know that one without looking that up because I'm a fucking Viking fan and watched that shit live. I can tell you that the snap came with 4 seconds left in the half, it was a 58 yard attempt by Longwell with the game tied at 7. Hell, just to prove it to you here's the video

Again, not game winning.
Shocking, dal not knowing what the fuck he was talking about and then when told he is wrong still stands behind his stupidity...

Re: Auburn/Alabama
Michigan put 41 fucking points on Ohio State....Fucking Michigan.
You know, the same Michigan team that had 138 rushes for 131 fucking yards the 138 carries leading into the Ohio State game.
The same Michigan team I watched in Person blow a 14 point half time lead against Iowa two weeks ago putting up 158 yards of total offense.
That same Michigan team that put up over 600 yards of offense vs Ohio State....
Yeah....

Re: Auburn/Alabama
I really didn't know reading comprehension was that difficult. OSU's defense has been bad all year. I mentioned that a few times. Their offense wins fucking games. Jesus Horatio Christ read once in a while.
Btw clenz, Miller and Hyde are still running on your defense.

The fact it took 42 points and a failed 2 pt conversion to beat Michigan doesn't speak well of OSU if they face FSU/Auburn/Bama
