Ganny nails it.

We shouldn't have unnecessary social gatherings now but the officials that allowed the protests lost credibility and now look like hypocrites when attempting to restrict gatherings or require masks (see DeBlasio, Bill). Their actions encouraged the naysayers who are blaming the current spike on the protests & riots. Leaders also blew it when they started reopening without emphasizing strongly enough that we weren't through this and that while restaurants and stores would be reopening people still need to wear masks and physical distance or things would shut down again. Trump hasn't been the only buffoon to display poor leadership during this pandemic.
Heck, in PA alone, Wolf stong-armed things for too long and lost a good segment of the population who thought he was just exerting power to show that he could. People complained about Walmarts and Home Depots being considered "essential" and open all during the pandemic, but similar stores, but locally owned, weren't allowed to be open. And then he took a long time to open other things up. Heck (this is a double heck post, a rarity), keeping hair salons and barbers closed until the end of June didn't make any sense. When I got my hair cut two weeks ago, the person cutting my hair was wearing a smock, a face mask, and a shield, I was wearing a mask, and they limited the number of people in the business to two people at a time (customers). Why did that need to wait until the end of June when we knew (and we talked about it here in this thread) in April that that's what would be required to operate?

When you don't make good decisions, or when you don't make any decisions at all, people rightfully see it as poor leadership, and it weakens that authority going forward. Wolf went too far in one direction and has seen the push back, other governors or the President went too far in another direction and have seen the impacts to the health of too many people. Not many American politicians got it all right, or even mostly right, in this pandemic and we're suffering as a result. But then again, we're the ones who voted in those folks, on both sides of the aisle.
An Gov Wolf just ordered restaurants to go from 50% to 25%, with zero scientific evidence that 50% to 25% makes any difference, effectively shutting down restaurants, and putting a whole another chunk of them out of business. Idiot. :ohno:

That's ok. Now the state can reopen the restaurants and they'll be better run with better food and service and lower prices because that's what happens when the state runs things. It'll be a kalmunist triptopia. ;)

The who or cdc has a study showing spread in a restaurant. Many restaurants here have added outdoor seating.

It could be enlightening if the hospitalization/death statistics could distinguish between protesting socialisdiots and redneck Trumplorables who refuse to wear a mask. Darwin says it will probably be a good mix of both.

Weren't a good portion of the contact tracers not allowed to ask if they were at protests, or am I just confusing that with New York? I think the information had to have been offered by the infected, not solicited.

The WHO has been reluctant to state the airborne nature of it. If you acknowledge that it can be spread via aerosols/droplets then reducing the number of people in ANY space, reduces the possible number of infected people and the viral lode.

The best practices right now are masks, distancing, and limiting exposure to possible carriers to 5 minutes....especially indoors.

You need to read up some more on kalmunism. Kalmunism promotes private enterprise in a well regulated market. It also recognizes the quickest remedy to economic recovery during a pandemic is to shut down early and long enough to get the numbers manageable so that businesses can reopen sooner.

You’re slowly losing this discussion we had many times back in April. :coffee:

Two stories about science I've told multiple times.

My Biochem professor was going to Law school. I asked him why. He said he had had enough. As he had grad students, he was submitting for grants. He discovered through a friend that his submission for a grant had been denied, but magically, another professor had essentially plagiarized his submission and gotten the grant.

How does that happen?

Back when they came up with the cure for AIDS...oh wait, they didn't, but they came up with the three drug cocktail that was going to cure AIDS, they made the announcement and then held a national convention. My two lab mates, on a different subject, attended the conference, as they had been working with FIV (feline). The U of M delegation informed them that the three drug cocktail wouldn't work because it failed in their experiments. You know what they were essentially told? You're just Montana, what do you know? Well, Montana was right and we still don't have a cure.

My point is if you think science, and the CDC, isn't politicized, I would have to disagree with you.

From 2009:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/swine-flu- ... mated/#app
In late July, the CDC abruptly advised states to stop testing for H1N1 flu, and stopped counting individual cases," CBS News reported in 2009. "The rationale given for the CDC guidance to forego testing and tracking individual cases was: why waste resources testing for H1N1 flu when the government has already confirmed there's an epidemic?"

That's right in line with the article I posted about a week ago.

I think it's simply wiping out those susceptible and then won't be nearly as bad moving forward.

I still need to read more, but what you are saying is what I picked up...in a general sense.
