That was funny.

It has nothing to do specifically what Joe did, try to keep up.
Yes it does. He knew his buddy was cornholing little boys in the showers and he reported it to others who he knew would do nothing (because they were members of the same organization, with grotesquely misplaced priorities).

Paterno the Great knew what was going on and he fluffed. So much for ethics on the PSU coaching staff. Heck they didn't even limit Sandusky's access once they knew. The guy was poking every prepubescent greasy starfish he could get his hands on and nobody saw nuttin!

If it had been a third string practice squad guy playing hide the sausage with little boys they would have strung him up.

Detachment from reality. That is the only way Paterno's lack of action can be described.
How do you know all of this? The Freeh Report? Nope. It made a lot of accusations and presented no real evidence.

Mike McQueary's testimony? I doubt it. Sandusky was acquitted on three of forty-eight charges. The three on which he was acquitted were related to McQueary's testimony. BTW, McQueary will be the star prosecution witness against Curley and Schultz. If that jury thinks he is no more credible than the Sandusky jury thought he was, Curley and Schultz are likely to walk.

What I meant was that was not being discussed on this thread-- we had moved onto other points.

I only said Penn State fans should have been more careful than to blindly trust their coach. Respecting a coach and deifying him are not the same. Penn State went the "deify" route. Ohio State fans by and large have yet to go that route. You could make a case for Alabama fans and Nick Saban, but I digress. I trust Urban Meyer to do one thing and one thing only- coach the team and do it better than anyone not named Saban. He's not my moral compass. He is not my own personal idol. Merely a fine coach that I am very happy Ohio State was fortunate enough to hire.
Huh? How many Ohio State fans named their kids after Woody Hayes? How many fans started wearing neckties and sweatervests when Tressel came along? OSU fans are just like PSU fans in their rabidness and love of their program - only difference is Paterno lasted longer before getting caught/dying than those other two did. PSU isn't a special case - they are representative of a wide swath of schools that live and breathe football and make weird, irrational decisions because of it. Luckily, PSU is the only one so far that has protected a child rapist.
Yes- I had a huge problem with the narrative that the weird PSU culture is to blame, and that PSU was somehow unique. Emerrett had a pretty funny gaffe last night. Bob Ley showed him the below quote and he stumbled around. Emerrett was high up on his horse when condemming PSU on Monday, yet he admitted that football at LSU was super important.

edit- I can't insert the stupid photo. It is here
