Re: Limbaugh should be blocked from bidding on Rams
Following the same logic put forth by many here (that a person's political views should be sufficient to disqualify him from purchasing a business in his own backyard) perhaps Mark Cuban should be forced to sell the Mavs after his anti-american military movie "Rendition" and Herb Kohl should have been forced to sell the Milwaukee Bucks years ago.
Heck, I remember Ted Turner trotting out "Hanoi Jane" at the Braves playoff games in the 90's, and some of Turner's comments and associating with Castro are every bit as offensive if not more so than anything Limbaugh has put out there.
As for player not wanting to play in StL because Limbaugh is a partner, that is laughable. They'll play wherever the money is, careers are too short and if that's the best opportunity to earn and win guys will go there regardless.

Maybe, P, but it won't ever get to that point. It'll be a DOA thing with the league owners who are already paralyzed in the face of Sharpton, et al.

I'd suggest using Sharpton as a blocking dummy but the NFL banned grease on linemen several years ago.Cap'n Cat wrote:blueballs wrote:Following the same logic put forth by many here (that a person's political views should be sufficient to disqualify him from purchasing a business in his own backyard) perhaps Mark Cuban should be forced to sell the Mavs after his anti-american military movie "Rendition" and Herb Kohl should have been forced to sell the Milwaukee Bucks years ago.

ST. LOUIS — Not only has NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith complained to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell about the potential sale of the Rams to an ownership group that includes conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, he has urged NFL players to speak out on the issue as well.
"I have asked our players to embrace their roles not only in the game of football but also as players and partners in the business of the NFL," Smith said in a statement. "They risk everything to play this game. They understand that risk and they live with that risk and its consequences for the rest of their life. We also know that there is an ugly part of history and we will not risk going backwards, giving up, giving in, or lying down to it.
"Our men are strong and proud sons, fathers, spouses, and I am proud when they stand up, understand this is their profession and speak with candor and blunt honesty about how they feel."
So far, that hasn't happened in St. Louis, however. In the locker room after Sunday's 38-10 loss to Minnesota, more than one Rams player privately voiced opposition to the potential inclusion of Limbaugh in the ownership group. To them it was not a matter of Limbaugh's politics, but a matter of what's regarded as some of his racially charged statements.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Clenz is rather a reserved guy. Had lunch with him last Spring. But, he's that Ted Kascynski, Ted Bundy, Charlie Manson, Bernhard Goetz, Son of Sam sort of reserved. Don't know if he's carrying a machete under his coat or not. I had to eat lunch with one eye on him the whole time. I even paid for it, so he wouldn't murder me and my boys!
Maybe that was pre-meds.

Nice attempt at a reversal, but you're dealing with the cream of the crop. Christ I invented that move on AGS several years ago.

I never even got to see your boys, you just gave them money and said "Go away, play darts or something I don't want to see you." You even made them eat at a different table. Some father you are

Nailed it, blueballs. If Antwaan Jaquez-Muhammad wants to play for Rush's Rams for $10 million a year, go for it. The Rams will suck for years. Clenz...you haven't taken the ass kicking that these guys say you have. Most everything you say is true, but most everything they say is true as well.
I'm sure Rush really wants to buy in on this thing but even if he is denied it doesn't hurt him. It just gives him more material and will propel those that believe in him even further down the line. He will use it as a tool to show how the "us against them" thing should be ratcheted up even further. I'm betting that he's gonna claim that it is some sort of discrimination against him, and it has a small amount of validity.

in theory - and in a vacuum, your point is valid - if a businessman has the money, he should be able to buy a team, however, just like any company, they have to look at the impact to their reputation - and Limbaugh would be bad for business.
and yes, UAH - I'm pretty convinced that's the only real reason he's doing this... fresh material for playing the victim...

No way the NFL owners are going to vote him into the club.
