The question now is whether there will be a significant reset. Perpetual growth doesn’t occur in nature. Even the expansion of the universe is slowing down.

The wife and I have separate portfolios. We met with her team yesterday and they’re not overly concerned.

My guy is a little more skeptical. But I’m more in growth and bargains with potentially big upsides.

My neophyte mind continues to wonder how much of the recent growth is being warped by AI and crypto.

I'm more than a little sceptical:
- Look at the Buffet Indicator, Shiller CAPE Ratio, Walmart Recession Signal, etc.
- Look at what Buffet, Ray Dalio, Jamie Dimon, Jeremy Grantham, John Hussman, Michael Burry, etc. say.

We have tariffs; war with Iran; impact on oil, fertilizer, etc. prices; and the yo-yoing uncertainty that trump brings to everything.

I'm 2 years from retirement and can afford missing a 10-20% gain much more than I can afford a potential 30-50% drop.

I hear all of that and how dare you shit on my optimism! Portfolio managers tend to be overly optimistic by nature. ;)

I will add that IMO AI will have both positive and negative impacts. It will improve efficiency and profitability but some companies will take advantage while others will fail. There will be ups and downs and people are going to lose their jobs. How many and how the change in employment numbers impacts the markets isn't certain.

Yup. The obvious upside is that AI itself will create new industries and jobs barely imagined yet. The downside, as you noted, is that AI machines and robotics don’t spend their wages.

People also lose their jobs because of blue politicians increasing minimum wage to $30 an hour in Los Angeles and New York City

They will fire every hostess, waiter and waitress, and people will be ordering on their app and a robot will bring their meal and spill water on them…. Yuck …. Who wants to flirt with a robot? Not me

It’s long been proven that minimum wage increases are a net economic gain.

“The governors of the three largest Democrat-run states, California, New York and Illinois, are continuing to tax tips and overtime against Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, while Colorado will require taxpayers to report how much is deducted federally so it can be added back for state taxes in future years.”

Idiotic blue governors don’t give the middle class a break

Most all of the people that work for tips are not millionaires

You have proved absolutely nothing Poindexter…

What happens to prices when you put extra cash into the pockets of workers who don’t know how to manage their money and just go out and spend spend spend?

Will their income be too high to get all the free stuff and tax rebates and generally not pay taxes at all?

Will it be harder for them to find a job as businesses don’t hire or just shutter up the business?

$30 is way over the top for a fast food worker…. pure greed

If "$30 is way over the top for a fast food worker…. pure greed" then what about elon and other billionaires striving to become the world's first trillionaire? If a fast food worker making $30/hour is pure green then a billionaire trying to become a trillionaire is greed to the power of infinity.

FTR: I don't support a $30/hour wage for a fast food worker in 2026 but the irony of you calling it greed was to "rich" to ignore.

If that was the case, why not make minimum wage $100 an hr. Better yet $1000 an hour. Everyone would be rich!

It’s long been proven that higher minimum wages lead to higher unemployment, esp among teens, who the minimum wage is supposed to to be for. It isn’t suppose to be for adults in their 20s/30s and older.

Re the Big Mac comparison. Fake post by Kalm. I’ve been to Copenhagen. I bet you couldn’t get a Big Mac there for under $10, and probably more, in DKK (Danish Krone).

Edit. Ok, Copenhagen isn’t all of Denmark (not sure how many McDonalds there are in Denmark outside of Copenhagen). So below would be a burger to burger comparison (not the meal deals with Fries & drink).

Avg in Denmark: $7.27
https://www.eatmyindex.com/country/denmark
Avg in US: $4.67 to $6.72
And the states at the higher end in the US are $15-$20 an hr minimum wage states.
https://www.foodandwine.com/mcdonalds-b ... 5-11727992

But yeah, let’s keep comparing the 340+ million people, 55%-60% non Hispanic white of the US to a country of 6+ million that is 90%-95% white.

FAKE post by Kalm. I’ve been to Copenhagen. Anyone who thinks they could get a Big Mac for $5.15 in Copenhagen is :dunce:

Of course not. Everyone knows you can't get a Big Mac from a can of chew.

All those high wage states have high standards of living and are still somehow doing ok.

The average age of a McDonalds worker is 21-23. 40% are over the age of 25. Minors can’t work full time jobs nor during the school day. It might have one time served as kids stepping stone, but that’s not today’s reality.

Now, back to the mines for you!

Should someone working at McDonalds or similar expect to make a "living wage"?

If that's your lot in life, maybe you should look at going to a trade school, community college or similar to improve it.

CH is right about automation replacing more of these jobs as the costs rise. I'm not an old man yelling at the clouds about it like he is though.
