Bad Rumors for Northeastern
Husky Alumn reports that the rumors all over the NU community are that football has met its match at NU.
We'll have to wait and see, but if that is the case I hope they decide ASAP so the players can make decisions in time for the spring semesters and Spring ball.

I know scholarships are on a year-by-year basis, but I'd assume they'd still honor them if Northeastern football dies?

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
I can think of a few other programs that might consider making that decision as well.....Indiana State, Idaho State, etc.

I think Indiana State will end up in the PFL in 2011. Natural and relatively close rivals with Butler, Valpo and Dayton.AZGrizFan wrote:I can think of a few other programs that might consider making that decision as well.....Indiana State, Idaho State, etc.
Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
here's Northeastern's message board. You need to pay to register for it and look at the topics, but just look at the title of the first thread...doesn't look good

The Patriot league might not even have to decide on the scholarship issue.
Fordham may be a CAA affilaite before then.

It's too bad but isn't this the second time NE has scrapped football?

Confirmed from the "inside".
Look for the press release late tonight or early tomorrow morning. Too bad.

Is the patriot league cutting scholarships for players or is that not what you mean?danefan wrote:The Patriot league might not even have to decide on the scholarship issue.

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
Would it be effective immediately?
Does anybody have any clue what that would do for the conference schedule? We'd have to get another conference game to give us eight games...

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
The PL does not currently offer scholarships. The operate on a need-based aid system that is dependent on the financial situation of the recruit. Fordham is converting all of its need-based aid grants to scholarships starting next year. The PL teams are supposed to decide whether they will follow shortly. If they decide not to, Fordham is set to have a scheduling arrangement with the PL and play a full PL schedule starting in 2010. They won't be eligible for the PL championship or league awards though.sebie wrote:Is the patriot league cutting scholarships for players or is that not what you mean?danefan wrote:The Patriot league might not even have to decide on the scholarship issue.

Anyone think Towson will be moved to the North since ODU will be in the South, and then the recent decision to put GSU in the North will be re-evaluated?

No clue on either question.mcveyrl wrote:Would it be effective immediately?

I just emailed the Albany AD urging him to try and lobby for Northeastern's vacated CAA North spot. Maybe that can solve the scheduling issue.

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
The simple soloution (partially anyway) would be for UMass, Maine, Hofstra to play a 4th south game next season against (JMU, Delaware and Richmond) the teams Northeaster were to play and that those three north teams werent to play. For URI and UNH the only real simple soloution to keep a balanced CAA schedule might be to play twice... though im not sure if thats realistic.mcveyrl wrote:Would it be effective immediately?

No we are 34 now. We've been limited by the dumb NEC rule of 2 additional per year.UNHWildCats wrote:are you guys at full scholarship levels or can u be buyy next seasons start? not sure if its required or not but is that an issue?danefan wrote:

Full scholarship or not, I have to imagine it wouldn't be a drop off from Northeastern's on-field ability and Albany is a program on the way up, as opposed to NU, which was on the way down.

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
Realistically though, if the CAA is shopping, there are two other teams that may have priority:
Fordham
Stony Brook
More scholarships and better current stadiums.
But who knows.

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
We (alumni) were told in the fall that there were some kind of negotiations going on behind the scenes and also that we'd "be in a much better position - scholarship wise - before we went to Cincinatti in 2011".
We're also putting $5 million a year for the next 4 years into stadium renovations. These are renovations that are not reliant on NYS approval, which means they will actually happen.
Maybe its all connected? Who knows. I cannot imagine anything would happen for next season though. Our contract in the NEC is up after next year.
