What is the future of Patriot League football?
What is the future of Patriot League football?
This was a continuing debate on the AGS board, so it makes sense to pick it up here. I don't know how many other PL posters have migrated here, however.

Adopt the PFL/IVY model, say "bye-bye" to Fordham and play ball! Obviously, more games with the PFL and IVY, and less with the "State U's" of the FCS world. Sure seems simple to me....
Re: What is the future of Patriot League football?
How has the philosophy of playing more Ivys and less State U's worked out for the PL so far, both competitively and financially? Has that idea enhanced PL membership stability?DetroitFlyer wrote:Adopt the PFL/IVY model, say "bye-bye" to Fordham and play ball! These are questions the PL would likely have to answer before considering what would certainly be a convenient ('simple'?) solution.

Re: What is the future of Patriot League football?
Patriot League is in a pickle, IMHO.
The loss of Fordham puts the League at what, 6 members? The minimium for auto-bid.
The five All-sports PL members, no problem. I'd worry about Georgetown, though.
Replacements? None really come to mind. The new rules on moving up preclude a quick fix from any of the "equals" in DIII, not sure if there are any in DII that would fit.

Re: What is the future of Patriot League football?
I don't think Fordham is going anywhere anytime soon.
I think 2010 will be the status-quo for PL teams and then I believe they will follow suit with what they did in bball and implement a do as you want approach.
This will ultimately cause a huge variation in talent in the league (as if there wasn't already one) and will cause Georgetown to leave the PL for the PFL, despite what some G'Town posters say, I think its inevitable.

I would not expect any startling changes this year or next. The June meeting will set the future agenda. What that will be is anyones' guess.

Re: What is the future of Patriot League football?
It isnt really possible for PL schools to schedule more Ivy games. Lafayete has 4 Ivy games scheduled for the next 100 years as far as I can tell. We have been playing Penn, Harvard, and Columbia nearly every year for the last 15 years. (Penn and Columbia longer than that). We also regularly have Princeton and sometimes Yale on the schedule.DetroitFlyer wrote:Adopt the PFL/IVY model, say "bye-bye" to Fordham and play ball! We appear to have limited or no expansion targets. Whether Fordham stays or goes I have no idea. But the rest of the league appears to be staying put despite many rumors from fans.

The least they could do is throw in some more Dartmouth games so I could attend. Better still UNH...I can dream can't I?

Re: What is the future of Patriot League football?
My Freshman year we had Brown and Dartmouth on the schedule, and that was the last time we played either team. They seem to like playing Holy Cross and Colgate, but a little Ivy variety would be nice.Pard94 wrote:The least they could do is throw in some more Dartmouth games so I could attend. I feel like I just walked into the Crapsville Bar...Where's Hattie? What the heck happened? I'm seeing some familiar faces...not completely focused..gotta get my feet wet, but nice to see some familiar 'faces'...Gotta tilt this place more to the 'east' I'll paddle around a bit and see how this place works. Seeing the Subject made me 'smile', but followed by a shaking of the head. I agree with a prior post, that we won't hear anything about this until the June meeting.

Maybe the PFL can trade Marist to the PL for Georgetown and a future draft pick....
