Football Opponents Lining Up (added 2/5)
"Within the last week or so UTSA made public one of the worst keep secrets that UTSAtailgaters had been preaching all along, UTSA will not be joining the SLC and will be aiming for FBS status as soon as possible. 2013 will be the first year for UTSA's reclassification into FBS status and during the 2013 season they must play a combination of FBS, FCS and D-II schools. For opposing FBS schools, a matchup against UTSA will count toward FBS eligibility for Bowl consideration.
With that being said, the UTSA staff will soon be releasing the 2011 schedule and future schedules. However, UTSAtailgaters has learned of FBS opponents who will be coming to the Alamodome, including some home and home series starting in the 2013 season and an incredible season opening matchup at the Dome. Multiple sources close to the program have confirmed that the home opener for UTSA in 2013 will be against Big XII South Power Oklahoma State. We would expect the Alamodome to sell out for this game.
Other confirmed visitors that will be playing UTSA sometime in the 2013 & 2014 schedules are Army, Navy, Air Force, Houston and SMU. Schools that are very close or have all but signed contracts with UTSA in 2013 & 2014 are two other Big XII schools in Baylor and Texas Tech. These are simply a handful of the twenty or more FBS programs that have contacted UTSA and are interested in playing a home and home with the Runners.
Although contracts are signed sometimes the match ups don't occur and scheduling can become a fluid situation. Which ever program wants out of the match up will either have to pay a buy out fee, reschedule with the university to their liking or just come to a mutual decision for both programs."
The TSU Bobcat board is in meltdown mode over this news, Im really interested to hear what some of you think. Let the hating begin lol.

That's great to get OSU to come to your place in 2013.
Definitely a butt kicking waiting to happen.

I'm just speculating here but could Georgia State see this news and get any ideas?

Re: UTSA schedule leaks
UTSA wants to go FBS.
These games - if you note - occur in '13 and beyond. At that point, UTSA will have their fourth recruiting class on the field and beginning the process of moving up in full gear.
UTSA is acting like they are FBS already and are recruiting that way. Sure, they'll play D2 and FCS the next two, three years - but they are fast pacing it...

First of all jb, it's
TXST
Not TSU = Texas Southern University
Secondly, we're not in melt down mode...give it a rest.
I, for one, cant wait to see you guys get wiped all over the field by these teams

Will this, if the moratorium is lifted, compel Tx State to accelerate a move up to get a one or two year jump on UTSA?

Re: UTSA schedule leaks
Jon, nothing compelling about it. We have already declared our intentions and are just waiting for the moratorium to end (and see what changes, if any, or what we may have to do, extra, to move up.) Nobody is going anywhere until the new guidelines have been put on the table, teams comply, a conference offers and the NCAA ok's it.

One of the Jacksonville St. posters said they will be going FBS and will be Indy if need be. I don't know if he's a legit poster or not. We will see.

Jacksonville State has made no secret of their desire to go FBS - ever since arch-rival Troy went.Fresno St. Alum wrote:One of the Jacksonville St. posters said they will be going FBS and will be Indy if need be. I don't know if he's a legit poster or not. We will see.

Re: UTSA schedule leaks
One thing about this that most people need to remember is that all this is just hearsay, there has been no announcements at any of the schools that I have seen.
Just some UTSA fanboy wrote an article about his "sources". Probably his best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who's an intern at UTSA and saw Lynn Hickey sign the contract last night!
May end up being true, may not, but for now it is all just hearsay.

Re: UTSA schedule leaks
UTSATailgaters.com is now reporting that K-State is the opener in the Alamodome in '13. Also reporting Houston is coming a few weeks later...
Another report on the same site says no games against Texas St-San Marcos either. I don't think the Bobcats schedule that far in advance or at least, that's the assumption I have after reading some of the posts on BFs.com.

My understanding is that we have already had behind the scenes discussions with the Sunbelt, and that once we upgrade our facilities (read basketball and baseball/softball) our invitation is just a "formality".Fresno St. Alum wrote:One of the Jacksonville St. posters said they will be going FBS and will be Indy if need be. They are also claiming that the UH game will be televised on ESPN. I know this has been discussed on bobcatfans.com, but I will say it anyways. I find it difficult to believe that ESPN would televise a startup program vs. UH, much less schedule 3 years in advance for such a game. Now it may very well turn out to be accurate, but I am still skeptical to the fact.TexasTerror wrote:UTSATailgaters.com is now reporting that K-State is the opener in the Alamodome in '13. Re: UTSA schedule leaks
UTSA will have no problems getting FBS teams to roll down into San Antonio (with the obvious exception of the Longhorns) because it is fertile recruiting soil and an easy win in front of many alumni. That's why UT and A&M schedule UH & Rice for everything. It keeps their Houston fanbases happy.
Its good to see UTSA is at least being upfront with the Southland. Although I am sure the parameters of joining the football league were going to punish the 'Runners greatly if they quickly bolted. So why mess with the trouble otherwise?
My alma mater Liberty has also been very open of plans to move up to FBS and is investing heavily in facility upgrades as well. But who knows when any of this can happen?

Re: UTSA schedule leaks
In the meantime, TXST is working on establishing a winning traditon (UTSA has no tradition) and making progress, facility-wise. It is, what seems, as slow process because everyone wants the football stadium upgrade done yesterday but other things have to take place before they can even begin the next phase (North end zone)
In one year we got new baseball and softball fields and the west side complex to the stadium. There are things ongoing that are not being noticed but all count when a conference comes calling. The U is complying/working to meet goals set forth by a study/recommendation committee a fews year ago.
They will be building the new track stadium this summer so that, eventually, they can remove the track at Bobcat Stadium.
Progress

It's what they want. They don't want to be relegated to the - OMG - SLC/FCS, even if that's where they are already. That or they're not willing to be shown up by SLC teams. They'd rather be totally humiliated by FBS teams. So be it.

..well then I hope that every FCS team that their AD calls on tells them to take a hike.
"Born in other countries, yet believing you could be happy in this, our laws acknowledge, as they should do, your right to join us in society, conforming, as I doubt not you will do, to our established rules. That these rules shall be as equal as prudential considerations will admit, will certainly be the aim of our legislatures, general and particular." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Hugh White, 1801
Re: UTSA schedule leaks
Sun Belt teams can't not get blown out by the teams on that schedule as it, and UTSA would still be years away from being at that point. I mean, what are they thinking?...CatMom wrote:Silenoz wrote:Jesus, talk about body bag games

Oh well, I'll still root for them like all FCS teams
Re: UTSA schedule leaks
some more schedule rumors for UTSA, sounds like they are close to finalizing the 2011 schedule.
taken from UTSATailgaters.com
"NOTES
To clarify any misunderstaning or miscommunication about the Runners opening 2011 schedule, UTSAtailgaters has confirmed that nine contracts have already been signed for the 2011 season and up to eleven are in the mix.
There had been grumblings that a season of 4-6 or 5-7 games would be played. That is actually the total of home games that are being targeted for the 2011 season. 5-7 home games is what UTSA is looking at for 2011. With opponents already confirmed such as Lamar, Georgia State, South Alabama, Cal-Poly there will be a full schedule. During our first two years of play we will not be playing a single FBS opponent."
anyone from these schools able to confirm on your end....im most interested to know if these are home and home contracts
