Seton Hall to cut four sports as part of 'strategic restructuring' plan to stay financially stable

In an effort to better use its financial resources, Seton Hall's athletic department announced late Wednesday a "strategic restructuring" to help ensure a sustainable athletic competitiveness.
The price? Four varsity sports will be cut from the university's athletic budget effective on July 1. The programs that will be eliminated — men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field — was targeted because they were the most expensive from a scholarship and facilities perspective.

Not surprising with the scholarships minimums that the Big East has in place.

Don't tell bob huggins. Obviously Seton Hall doesn't have the resources to stay in big time basketball

I have a hard time figuring this one. The facilities are usually shared with the football team, so there are essentially ZERO facilities expenses unless the cost is shared, in which case it's minimal. Many of the athletes are THREE-SPORT athletes (Indoor and outdoor track and XC), so the schollie costs could be considered to be split three ways. Meets are usually triangular or bigger, so travel costs are generally a bit lower. To me, T&F/XC are the most economical sports in an athletic program.
Since they're dumping BOTH genders, Title IX is likely a non-issue or close to it. But this is STILL highly confusing for me.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Seton Hall doesn't have a football team.
As far as basketball goes, they are committed to a big time program.

Now their non-existant track team can share imaginary facilities with their non-existant football team.SuperHornet wrote:I have a hard time figuring this one. Men limit is 12.6, women 18. Seems like facilities must already be in place. Really too bad. I'll have to check and see how many sports they'll have now.
