Golf: Major Wins since 2004

Post by AZGrizFan »

Since Phil Mickelson finally broke through in 2004 and won the Masters for his first major, here's a list of Major winners:

Tiger Woods (6): 2008 US Open, 2007, 2006 PGA Championship, 2006, 2005 British Open, 2005 Masters
Phil Mickelson (4): 2010, 2006, 2004 Masters, 2005 PGA Championship
Padraig Harrington (3): 2008, 2007 British Open, 2008 PGA Championship
Angel Cabrera (2): 2009 Masters, 2007 US Open
Lucas Glover (1): 2009 US Open
Stewart Cink (1): 2009 British Open
Yang Yong-eun (1): 2009 PGA Championship
Trevor Immelman (1): 2008 Masters
Zach Johnson (1): 2007 Masters
Geoff Ogilvy (1) 2006 US Open
Micheal Campbell (1): 2005 US Open

I think what this points out is that, while Tiger is still acknowledged by all as the best golfer in the world, the gap has been closed somewhat (at least where majors are concerned) by at least 2 golfers. 22 Major tournaments. Tiger wins 27% of the time, Phil wins 18% of the time....and considering the fact that Phil probably will NEVER win the British Open because of his style of play, he's really 4/18.

From 1997-2002, a 5-year period during which Tiger won EIGHT majors, only ONE golfer (VJ Singh) won more than ONE major (he won 2). Perhaps even more amazing is that since Tiger won HIS first at the 1997 Masters, there's only been four years (1998, 2003, 2004 and 2009) where Tiger didn't win at LEAST one Major. I wonder why Tiger didn't win a major in 2009?

I fucking hate Tiger. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

You do seem infatuated with the man, Z. How much did he pay you to keep silent after your tryst?

Nothing, that is why he hates him so much. I agree though, Z, his ego is a big as his black book and he has been taken down a few notches and I am glad.

Is it purely irony that as his sex life and number of partners ramped up, his # of majors ramped DOWN?
