Your 2010 Best Recruit?

Post by ronbo »

Who is the number 1 recruit for you this recruiting season? Who is the guy that could make the biggest impact in the time he'll be playing for your school?

For Montana it has to be Quarterback Jordan Johnson.

Led his team to back to back 6A State Championships.

2009 Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year
2009 Oregon Offensive Player of the Year

1090 yards rushing, 20 TD's

HS Career stats total offense
11,337 yards, 134 TD's

305 yards, 4 TD's in the 2010 Oregon All Star Game. MVP.

For Southern, it's up in the air due to a new coaching staff, but I'll choose:
William Waddel
WR Booker T. Washington High (Houston)
6'4" 200lb.
30 catches 504 yards 16.8 yards per catch 9 TDs

Southeastern Louisiana has several guys who I think could make a big impact, but the most notable is Gavin Webster, 5-11, 210, QB, Lutcher HS, Lutcher, La...Webster was named Louisiana Mr. Football for 2009-2010 and rated 3-Stars by Rivals.com...doubtful he'll win the starting job as a true freshman but should come in and contribute immediately.

I would also add a couple of more who will likely make an immediate impact:

Jordan Wells, 5-11, 195, RB, Round Rock, Texas...home run threat at tailback who runs very physical...should come in and play right away along side Zeke Jones and Sam Fairley...rated 2-Stars by Rivals, though was a 3-Star and Top 75 RB nationally until he committed to us (go figure).

Jordan Wells Highlights

Aaron Harris, 6-3, 225, LB, Westfield HS, Houston, Texas...huge get for us!! Rated 3-Stars by Rivals and #55 LB nationally...played primarily DE in high school but will play LB at Southeastern...physically ready to play now and has looked outstanding during summer workouts...we're pretty experienced at LB but should come in and play right away.

Lots of good recruits going to Montana this year, but yeah...Johnson gets the nod. He has the skills to decimate the Big Sky.

This dude's ability to escape when coverage breaks down, then scramble and keep his eyes on a few receivers all at once reminds of someone I've seen here in the past. I don't even want to mention it but it could be that Pflu saw that and really wanted him based on some definite similarities.

He's a local kid, qz. Sounds like he has a ton of talent - hope he can keep his grades up. :thumb:
RB Bellamy to sign with Youngstown State
Former Dunedin running back Adaris Bellamy, who signed with USF in 2009 but was told last month there was no longer a scholarship available to him with the Bulls, will sign today with Division I-AA Youngstown State, his high school coach said Wednesday.

"He could play at a higher level, but I think he'll be a star there," Mark Everett said. "He's excited. He just told me his goal is to win the Walter Payton Award (given to the top player in I-AA football)."

Bellamy, who spent last fall at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia and was able to raise his grades and test scores to meet NCAA requirements, had hoped to enroll at USF as was the plan when he went to Fork Union last summer. But in the transition from Jim Leavitt to Skip Holtz, USF ran out of scholarships for running backs. Bellamy was rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com last year.

When news broke that he wasn't going to USF, he drew immediate interest from Cincinnati, but Everett said he wasn't able to make a scheduled visit to the Bearcats because he hadn't signed his release from USF. Everett spoke with Cincinnati head coach Butch Jones last week and again Monday, but said Bellamy decided not to wait any longer and sign with the Penguins, who signed a high school teammate of his this month in linebacker Ali Cheaib.

Youngstown State has several USF ties -- its head coach, Eric Wolford, was an assistant on USF's original staff in 1996, and the assistant who recruited Bellamy is defensive coordinator Rick Kravitz, who worked on Leavitt's staff at USF from 1996-2005.

The Tribe has two safeties coming in who look like they could be exceptional.

Ivan Tagoe, 6' 203 from Paint Branch in Maryland was a consensus all-state pick as a wide receiver, and first team all-met with the Washington Post as a DB. He was moved to LB for the Maryland Crab Bowl and wowed the coaches of that all-star game with his field vision, anticipation and physicality. Tagoe also played some RB for Paint Branch, and lined up all over the field on defense.

Airek Green, 6'1" 205 from Thomas Dale in Virginia had skipped football his junior year to focus on basketball. After deciding to return to the gridiron for his senior season, he led Dale to the Virginia Div. 6 championship and was named Defensive Player of the Year for the state of Virginia, and POY of the all-met team by the Richmond Times Dispatch. Several Richmond area coaches have compared Green to former Trbe great Darren Sharper. Green also played WR for Dale, and like Tagoe, lined up all over the field on D.

Our top recruit is likely a very talented (hopefully) QB going into his second season at a major FBS school, disgruntled that he currently finds himself #2 on the depth chart. :D

Appalachian stocked up on Beef this Spring (lotsa Seniors & Juniors manning the trenches this Fall). IIRC, half of 'em were in the 6'-4" to 6'-6" range with 4 or 5 tipping the scales around 280 lbs. Hopefully there are a few keepers in that bunch --- glad I don't have to feed them for 4 or 5 years

Otherwise, Jamal Jackson (I believe) is a redshirt Frosh in the thick of the battle (with DeAndre Presley) to replace AE.

May he successfully reign terror on SoCon def coordinators over the next 4 years :thumb:

Well, for McNeese I think it was QB Will Briscoe of Central High School near Baton Rouge. But he hurt his knee playing basketball. Hopefully it'll turn out all right.

I actually think we could fare pretty well at QB following Devlin. Hopefully we'll get to see Sasek in a few games this year. Judging by Burns' recruiting tape there could be a good battle going into 2011.

Let's just hope 2010 gives us something good to talk about - maybe then we can turn on GoHens again.

AH! So I did...unless something happens to one of the other two behind MB, I wouldnt be surprised if he redshirts and gets a chance to learn under MB over the next couple years and gets to battle Hudson for the #1 job in a couple years (and maybe even Tracy Curry depending on how Coach Rocco decides to use him)

Many questions surrounding Portland State and new coach Nigel Burton, even in recruiting. Probably our best recruit this year is Willie Griffin, a transfer from UWashington who will be a junior at PSU, playing running back.

Portland State bio:
http://www.goviks.com/ViewArticle.dbml? ... =204919145" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Washington bio:
http://www.gohuskies.com/sports/m-footb ... lie00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He came to Washington as part of Willingham's much heralded 2007 recruiting class, redshirted 2007 and started four games for the Huskies in 2008. Garnered offensive player of the game against Washington State that year. 2009 found him backing up Chris Polk, which did not give him much playing time so he transferred. This new pistol offense generated three 1000 yard rushers for Nevada last year so we need some runners. We have not had a 1000 rusher since I think Joe Rubin in 2005. Many questions surrounding him and the rest of the team.
