NAU 19-14 SUU
UCD 24-29 UMT
TXST 38-35 NCOL

  • NConf Record: 3-3
    Overall: 11-15

    vs. FCS: 2-2
    Overall: 4-3

Best Performance: (#4) Montana 29, UC Davis 24 - Despite giving up a couple blocked kicks & being out-possessed by about 13 minutes, the Griz manage to get their 24th. straight regular season win.

Worst Performance: Northern Colorado 35, Texas St. 38 - The Bears put up 568 yards, but they also commit 5 turnovers including a last minute fumble at the 2 yard line.

Most Surprising Result: (#14) Eastern Washington 52, (DII) Western Washington 31 - The Eagle defense gives up as many points to WWU as they did to Colorado.

Southland

TXST 38-35 NCOL
SFA 14-34 WIU
SHSU 14-38 KU
QUINCY 6-51 UCA
SELA 26-41 LATECH
CP 52-18 NWST
NICH 10-31 MEM

  • NConf Record: 2-5
    Overall: 13-10

    vs. FCS: 1-2
    Overall: 6-2

Best Performance: Texas St. 38, Northern Colorado 35 - Bobcats get revenge for the 2006 loss that knocked them out of the top-25 for good.

Worst Performance: Northwestern St. 18, (#13) Cal Poly 52 - This is the most embarrassing home defeat for the Demons since a 35-7 loss to North Dakota State 3 years ago.

Most Surprising Result: Northwestern St. 18, (#13) Cal Poly 52 - The Demons had 3 playoff appearances in the first half of this decade, but it looks like they may now be headed for a fourth straight non-winning season.

Missouri Valley

SDKST 20-34 UNI
MIZST 45-28 SEMO
EIU 25-21 ILST
SFA 14-34 WIU
NDSU 24-32 YSU
INST 3-48 IU

  • NConf Record: 2-2
    Overall: 9-13

    vs. FCS: 2-1
    Overall: 7-2

Best Performance: (#8) Northern Iowa 34, (#12) South Dakota St. 20 - The Panthers run for 233 yards & take an early lead in the MVC race.

Worst Performance: (#3) North Dakota St. 24, Youngstown St. 32 - The Bison give up a whopping 340 rushing yards while QB Nick Mertens throws 4 interceptions.

Most Surprising Result: Youngstown St. 32, (#3) North Dakota St. 24 - Not too far removed from a waxing at the hands of the Jackrabbits, the Penguins take out their frustrations on the other Dakota State.

OVC

MIZST 45-28 SEMO
EIU 25-21 ILST
JAXST 31-3 UTC
MUR 9-50 WKU
EKU 20-34 TSU

UTM 31-17 AP

  • NConf Record: 4-3
    Overall: 11-14

    vs. FCS: 3-2
    Overall: 7-4

Best Performance: (#22) Eastern Illinois 25, Illinois St. 21 - 18 unanswered points gives an OVC team a rare win over an MVC team not named Indiana State.

Worst Performance: Southeast Missouri St. 28, Missouri St. 45 - Though they outgained the Bears by 131 yards, the Redhawks gave up 3 non-offensive touchdowns (1 KR, 2 INT return).

Most Surprising Result: Austin Peay 17, Tennessee-Martin 31 - Now 0-4, the Governors prove last year's 7-4 mark was just a fluke.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

Worst Performance: Georgetown 7, Yale 47 - Yale will contend for the Ivy League championship while the Hoyas… well, the Hoyas probably couldn't even contend for the DCIAA High School championship.

Most Surprising Result: Fordham 29, Columbia 22 - The Rams actually needed 15 unanswered 4th. quarter points to hold off the lowly Lions.

CAA

URI 20-23 HOF

Worst Performance: Towson 3, Coastal Carolina 31 - Uh, hello? Towson? You're in the CAA now. You really can't allow an average Big South team to outgain you by nearly 300 yards.

Most Surprising Result: Northeastern 21, (FBS) Syracuse 30 - Are the Huskies better than we all thought? Or is this unexpectedly close result just a severe indictment on the state of the Syracuse football program?

MEAC

FAMU 51-24 HOW
NCAT 7-44 HAMP
NFOLK 12-42 W&M
MORG 21-7 WSSU

Worst Performance: Howard 24, Florida A&M 51 - Bison down 51-0 at the end of three before managing 3 garbage touchdowns with 3 two-point conversions to make the final score look vaguely respectable.

Most Surprising Result: Norfolk St. 12, William & Mary 42 - Spartans not looking like a MEAC contender this season.

SoCon

WCU 23-21 PRESBY
APPST 32-35 JMU

Worst Performance: Tennessee-Chattanooga 3, Jacksonville St. 31 - Outgained by 304 yards at home, things continue to get worse for the Chatt.

Most Surprising Result: (#11) Wofford 13, (FBS) South Carolina 23 - Terriers give the Gamecocks everything they can handle for the second time in three years.

I agree. However, I think you're going to get an argument out of Mark.

Thank you all for the accolades!

Texas State hasn't been very good since David Bailiff bolted for Rice following the 2005 semifinal appearance; I have no idea why they're trying to move up to FBS. UNC does appear to be improving, though. I believe they'll win at least a couple conference games this year & they might knock off NAU in Greeley this weekend.

Great West

UCD 24-29 UMT
CPOLY 52-18 NWST
NAU 19-14 SUU
UND 38-35 IDST
CLVSTK 7-70 SDK

  • NConf Record: 3-2
    Overall: 10-9

    vs. FCS: 2-2
    Overall: 3-7

Best Performance: (#13) Cal Poly 52, Northwestern St. 18 - QB Jonathan Dally amasses 4 total TDs, RB James Noble runs for 118 yards on only 8 carries, and WR Ramses Barden has yet another big game as the Mustangs destroy the Demons.

Worst Performance: Southern Utah 14, Northern Arizona 19 - Thunderbird QB Cody Stone throws for 304 yards, but only completes 35% of his passes.

Most Surprising Result: Southern Utah 14, Northern Arizona 19 - SUU actually had a chance to pull a mild upset here, but their hopes were dashed when Stone was picked off in the endzone by NAU CB K.J. Gerard.

Ivy League

NOVA 20-14 PENN (OT)
FORD 29-22 COLUM
COR 21-20 BUCK
DART 20-34 COLG
HC 24-25 HARV
SB 7-17 BROWN
GTOWN 7-47 YALE
PRINCE 24-37 CIT

  • NConf Record: 4-4
    Overall: 4-4

    vs. FCS: 4-4
    Overall: 4-4

Best Performance: Harvard 25, Holy Cross 24 - Crimson WR Marco Iannuzzi catches 11 passes for 174 yards & a 68 yard TD that kicked off a nice 4th. quarter comeback.

Worst Performance: Dartmouth 20, Colgate 34 - Big Green outrushed 367-91.

Most Surprising Result: Penn 14, (#19) Villanova 20 (OT) - Quakers force 4 Antwon Young interceptions and keep Nova scoreless in the second half to nearly pull off a big win for the Ivy League.

Big South

SB 7-17 BROWN
CHOW 20-69 VMI
TOW 3-31 CCU

  • NConf Record: 2-1
    Overall: 11-12

    vs. FCS: 1-1
    Overall: 6-9

Best Performance: Coastal Carolina 31, Towson 3 - Chants rush for 302 yards & hold the Tigers to 186 yards of total offense.

Worst Performance: Stony Brook 7, Brown 17 - Seawolves held to 147 yards by a team that gave up an average of 455 last season.

Most Surprising Result: Stony Brook 7, Brown 17 - Now 1-3, the Seawolves don't seem to be adding to last year's momentum.

SWAC

TXSO 28-13 TXCOLL
JSU 5-14 GRAM
ALST 10-45 UAB
CENTST 17-37 AAMU
PVAMU 49-15 MVSU
APB 3-13 ALCORN

  • NConf Record: 2-1
    Overall: 6-18

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 0-10

Best Performance: Grambling 14, Jackson St. 5 - Leading 7-5 with less than a minute left, Freshman DB Bruna Foster returns an interception 34 yards for a touchdown to seal the win for Grambling.

Worst Performance: Arkansas Pine-Bluff 3, Alcorn St. 13 - The Golden Lions are now 0-4 and scoring just 6.75 ppg against a rather weak schedule.

Most Surprising Result: Texas Southern 28, (NAIA) Texas College 13 - Not a surprising result, but you have to feel sorry for the Tigers having to play consecutive sub-DI road games.

Its a little of both. UNC looks a lot better then I expected. They have a great QB and RB. Special teams (other then kicker) had great speed. Their defense gives up too many plays (a lot like Texas St). I expect both teams to be about .500 this year.

Pioneer League

MARIAN 13-10 VALPO
RM 14-31 DAY
JVILLE 21-22 UNCPEM
USD 43-7 CAMP

  • NConf Record: 1-2
    Overall: 12-11

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 4-4

Best Performance: Dayton 31, Robert Morris 14 - Flyers force 4 Erik Cwalinski interceptions & roll to an easy win.

Worst Performance: Valparaiso 10, (NAIA) Marian (IN) 13 - The Crusaders lead 10-0 at the half & force 4 turnovers, yet they again find a way to lose to a lower division opponent.

Most Surprising Result: Campbell 7, San Diego 43 - Given that the rookie Camels are coming off two DIII setbacks & a 52-0 loss to lackluster Jacksonville, I'm surprised we didn't see something like a 100-0 result here.

NEC

SFPA 7-21 DUQ
RM 14-31 DAY
ALB 24-32 UNH
WAG 21-14 MARIST
NCCEN 23-35 CCSU
SACHRT 44-24 IONA
MONM 30-17 BRY

  • NConf Record: 4-2
    Overall: 10-12

    vs. FCS: 4-2
    Overall: 8-11

Best Performance: Albany 24, (#10) New Hampshire 32 - You know, the Danes could have scheduled slightly weaker playoff conference opponents to try & reach auto-bid status. But no, they decided instead to try & take down three top-flight CAA teams. They get their last chance against Delaware this week.

Worst Performance: St. Francis (PA) 7, Duquesne 21 - The Red Flash controlled the clock for 38 minutes, yet couldn't score after the 1st. quarter.

Most Surprising Result: Sacred Heart 44, Iona 24 - Pioneers get revenge for last year's 24 point loss.

Independents

SACHRT 44-24 IONA
WAG 21-14 MARIST
MONM 30-17 BRY
NCCEN 23-35 CCSU
SAVST 9-34 BCOOK

  • Non-Ind Record: 0-5
    Overall: 6-13

    vs. FCS: 0-5
    Overall: 2-12

Best Performance: (none) - Independents go a pathetic 0-5, 4 of those losses to NEC teams.

Worst Performance: Iona 24, Sacred Heart 44 - Gaels outscored 24-7 in the second half.

Most Surprising Result: Iona 24, Sacred Heart 44 - The Gaels have a long way to go to equal last year's 7-4 mark; they've already lost to 2 opponents they defeated last year.
