I posted this on FlameFans, but wanted to open the discussion here as well...
This season I've been following the numbers of Mike Bellamy, a running back from my High School (Charlotte High) who's committed to Clemson and is 27th in the ESPNU 150.
Thru 8 games, here are his stats (CHS is a public school and plays 4A football in Florida):
140 carries
1677 yards
31 TD's
Which basically means about 12 yards a carry, 210 yards a game, and 4 TD's a game.
Not many other names to come from CHS, so he might be a shot at getting a big name player out there. Burton Lawless, a guard for 5 years with the Cowboys in the late 70's, is our only notable football alum to date. QB Justin Midgett had a chance, but he showed up at Florida during the Leak/Tebow era (Leak was there already, and had he stayed around he'd never have played because of Tebow). Needless to say he never got a chance, and played in AFL2 and is playing in Europe now, I think. (Ingle Martin was there, too. He wound up doing okay for himself tho at Furman, then in the NFL and UFL... probably what Midgett should have done, too). I once busted Midgett's eyebrow open playing basketball. Fun story...
Anyways, what players does your high school have to brag about?

When I was in High School, we once had a guy who scored four touchdowns in one game.

I don't know the exact numbers, but the high school that my son attends (Owen J. Roberts) has a RB named Ryan Brumfield who has almost 8000 career rushing yards and is averaging about 250 yards per game this season.
The team has at least 3 games remaining (more if they advance in the playoffs) and Ryan has a shot at the Pennsylvania state record of 9,027 rushing yards.
He rushed for 286 yards tonight in 3.5 quarters in a 55-14 win against a team that entered the game 8-0.

Sounds like similar numbers to Bellamy.BlueHen86 wrote:I don't know the exact numbers, but the high school that my son attends (Owen J. Roberts) has a RB named Ryan Brumfield who has almost 8000 career rushing yards and is averaging about 250 yards per game this season.

What level of football is it? I didn't find a lot on the kid from a basic Google, except an article from before the season which basically said he's got no offers. But production like that is hard to argue with.

My hometown team is in the State quarter-finals, with my Soph nephew at QB. Couple nice RB's on the team. Team lost first 4 to some good teams and have won the last 7 in a row with one of the teams to beat them coming up tomorrow.

It's AAAA in Pennsylvania which is the largest classification. The team got off to a slow start, but is rolling right now at 7-2.ToTheLeft wrote:Sounds like similar numbers to Bellamy.BlueHen86 wrote:I don't know the exact numbers, but the high school that my son attends (Owen J. I don't think Brumfield has any I-A offers, I don't think he's that big. He is listed at about 180, but I don't know how accurate that is. I know he has blazing speed and is a tremedous high jumper; his father player played in the NFL, so there is somewhat of a pedigree.

Re: YOUR High School's football stars
Our head coach backed up Jim Kelly with the Houston Gamblers. One of his assistants got a Super Bowl ring as a tackle with the Giants, finishing up with a year on the Falcons (he REALLY liked playing for Dan Reeves).
As far as current people go, we have a couple of backs that should get schollie offers for next year. One played QB until moving to running back this year, so he's flexible. What level they go is anybody's guess, though. The other recently returned from missing most of the year with a shoulder injury.
My Flames (yes, that's my HS mascot) blew the conference title last night, but should still get a good playoff seed if they win out.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Hmmm, I guess that's just the difference between Florida and PA. He sounds a lot like Bellamy. (Well, except that CHS is 8-0). Blazing speed, not too big, terrific track athlete. He's verbaled to Clemson but Gator fans hold out hope of signing him, but the kid in PA gets nothing? Might be a difference in running style or something, who knows.BlueHen86 wrote:It's AAAA in Pennsylvania which is the largest classification. I think he'll get something, there are a lot of teams interested (Alabama and Pitt to name two) it's just that none have made an offer yet.ToTheLeft wrote:Hmmm, I guess that's just the difference between Florida and PA.
