I get Tex Winter (who invented the triangle offense) and Tara Vanderveer (one of the best coaches of all time). I even get Chris Mullin, Artis Gilmore, and Arvydas Sabonis.
But DENNIS FREAKING RODMAN?!? The WORM?!? Heck no! The baseball HOF has enough jerks. (Cobb/Speaker/etc.) The last thing the NBA HOF needs is that tatooed freak.
Ugh!?!

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

1. it isn't the NBA hall of fame - it's the basketball hall of fame... a very real distinctionSuperHornet wrote:I get Tex Winter (who invented the triangle offense) and Tara Vanderveer (one of the best coaches of all time). I even get Chris Mullin, Artis Gilmore, and Arvydas Sabonis.

2. Rodman was perhaps the best rebounder of all time, and the guy was a critical component of many, many championship teams...
3. OJ Simpson is in the NFL HOF and he killed two people* who gives a shit if Rodman as a narcisist of Travis-like levels? who cares about tattoos? who cares if he married himself? or banged carmen electra? or even kicked a photographer? that's not what measures a player for the hall of fame.

Nobody thinks the WWE screwed up in their HOF inductees. People don't give it a second thought...trust me on that one.
If you do think of the WWE HOF in any context...any fucking context at all then you are far less useful in a conversation that say...a bowl of gravy.

Rodman is a legit HOF'er. The guy could rebound and play defense. I think anyone who plays defense should automatically be in the basketball HOF.
Rodman also studied opposing players and learned their shooting tendancies. He knew how guys missed and which way the rebound would likely go, that we he could position himself better. He was a great player on the Pistons, but was overshadowed Thomas, Laimbeer and Mahorn. He started doing the wild stuff to get attention, which worked. Rodman was crazy like a fox.

1. I realized that on the way to track practice. But most of the well-known people in there had good NBA careers.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:1. it isn't the NBA hall of fame - it's the basketball hall of fame... a very real distinctionSuperHornet wrote:I get Tex Winter (who invented the triangle offense) and Tara Vanderveer (one of the best coaches of all time). 2. I'd take Jabbar over Rodman as a rebounder any day of the week, and he wasn't such a pain to deal with.
3. Simpson was innocent. And I had no intention of bringing UNH into it.

he was found "not guilty" that doesn't mean "innocent" there is a hell of a difference... but i digressSuperHornet wrote:1. I realized that on the way to track practice. But most of the well-known people in there had good NBA careers.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:

while you'd take Kareem - and that's fine... that doesn't mean Rodman isn't a hall of fame player.

I would say one of the best, and yes he had a HOF career whether you like him or not.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:2. Rodman was perhaps the best rebounder of all time, and the guy was a critical component of many, many championship teams....

Dennis Rodman was one of the best rebounders ever. You can make the arguement that he should have been the NBA Finals MVP the last Bulls championship. He had like twice as many rebounds than anyone.

If the HOF didn't allow players who had tattoos then there wouldn't be a HOF.

Teresa Edwards? Tara Vandeveer? Goose Tatum? I don't recall any of them having good NBA careers.SuperHornet wrote:But most of the well-known people in there had good NBA careers.
As for Sabonis, he only played in 470 NBA games, after his body was beaten and bruised in Europe for years.

Its basketball, not just the NBA. All inductees this year are worthy of inclusion for their many accomplishments toward the game.
As for the WWE Hall of Fame, that makes about as much sense as, well, country music fans voting for entertainer of the year.

JALMOND:
My "most of" remark wasn't generally referring to THIS year's class. It was intended to refer to the entire Hall in terms of the members "most" people are familiar with. You do have to admit that most people tend to ignore the contributions of women in most facets of life. We don't hear much about guys who play outside the US. College contributions, outside of NBA busts like Ralph Sampson, generally aren't much remembered after a couple of years. And nobody pays ANY attention to pro leagues (male OR female) below the level of the NBA.
You do make a good comparison for the WWE HOF. I will always love Hogan as a performer, but including the likes of Drew Carey does make for a good comparison to country music.
