Plus...
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun says he has more talent this season than he had on the team that won the national championship in April.

Calhoun made the comment Thursday before a dinner at which the 2010-11 Huskies received their national championship rings.

"We're more talented right now," Calhoun told reporters. "It doesn't mean we're going to win any games. It doesn't mean we're going to win a national championship. I think we can."

Those are nice looking rings. I still can't believe UConn won it all last year. That was an incredible post season run. Winning 5 games in 5 nights at the Big East tourney may never be done again.

Definitely, that run was very similar to when the Giants won their super bowl a few years ago...1 game at a time. It was "okay that's nice, UConn defeated Depaul" to "nice, UConn defeated Georgetown" and so on. Not once until the championship game did I actually think about UConn possibly pulling off that accomplishment and it was actually IMO very influential to them winning the National Championship. They rode into the NCAA tournament riding a ton of momentum and confidence.

I'll also be the first to say no way in hell did I think UConn was the best team last year. I thought for sure it was Ohio State or Kansas or Duke. Obviously Ohio State went out relatively early to whoever they lost to...can't remember. And then of course Kansas lost to ODU arch rival VCU and Duke losing to Arizona. In other words, a lot fell into place for UConn's run to the National Championship. In some part, maybe I have to give thanks to VCU for going on the run that they did. :? They avoided having to play great teams....Bucknell, Cincinnati, San Diego State, Arizona, Kentucky, Butler.

We'll see just how good they are this year however with the departure of Kemba Walker who will easily go down as my all-time favorite in UConn Basketball....was never really old enough to appreciate any of the good UConn players in the early to mid-90's. I will also say that '06 team still irritates the hell out me....that team should have won the NC considering their potential. Anyway, UConn returns 4 of its starters and most importantly Alex Oriakhi, Shabazz Napier and Jeremy Lamb. They also have a GREAT recruiting class coming in with Ryan Boatright (4 stars, #42 nationally, #9 PG), DeAndre Daniels (5 stars, #10 nationally, #3 SF), and Andre Drummond (5 stars, #2 nationally, #1 Center).

Similar to what happened with the Packers Super Bowl run last year, it kept becoming more of a possibility each passing game. Congrats to UCONN again for that spectacular run through both tournaments last year.
